The District Electoral Officer (DEO) for Luwingu, Mr. Gift Kakoma, has officially opened the three-day Poll Staff Training at Luwingu Boarding Secondary School, calling on the selected officers to uphold the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Code of Conduct and core values during the run up to the poll day .
Speaking during the official opening, Mr. Kakoma said the selected poll staff are required to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, impartiality, and non-partisanship in order to support the Commission in conducting free and fair elections.
Mr. Kakoma said about 1,300 people responded to the poll staff recruitment advertisement, which was published in early June.
He said over 1,000 applicants were shortlisted to sit for an aptitude test which was administered on 1st August 2026, from which 488 candidates were successfully selected.
He said the training will equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage polling stations, such as welcoming voters ,issuance of ballot papers and assisting voters that may require help to vote .
Mr. Kakoma cautioned the poll staff to be respectful, courteous, and professional when serving voters.
He further warned the participants that ECZ will not hesitate to dismiss anyone that will show indiscipline , misconduct and act in a way that may compromise the electoral process.
