Over 36,000 Mantapala Residents Set to Benefit from New Health, Nutrition Project
Thursday 7th May, 2026
More than 36,000 people in Mantapala Refugee Settlement and surrounding host communities in Nchelenge District are expected to benefit from a new health and nutrition emergency response project launched by Government and cooperating partners.
Launching the ECHO-funded Strengthening Action for Emergency Response (SAFE-SA) Project in Nchelenge this morning, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary for Luapula Province Evans Sikabbubba said the initiative underscores Government’s commitment under President Hakainde Hichilema to ensuring vulnerable communities have access to quality healthcare and nutrition services.
Mr. Sikabbubba said the New Dawn Administration will continue working with humanitarian organisations and cooperating partners to strengthen health systems and improve people’s livelihoods across the country.
And Action Against Hunger Zambia Country Director Mary Khozi said the project will enhance emergency health and nutrition services in Mantapala Refugee Settlement through coordinated interventions involving Government, UNHCR and Caritas Mansa.
Ms. Khozi said the programme is part of a wider regional intervention supported by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations-ECHO targeting vulnerable communities in Zambia and Madagascar.
