A sewer leakage at Mulundu Market near Nakonde Town Council Guest House has caused concern and poses a high health risk to traders and customers.

A check by Nakonde FM News crew this morning found wastewater flooding out of a soakaway, prompting concerns about the safety of food and people at the market.

Some traders spoken to mentioned that the local government collects money from traders every day and should look into this serious matter urgently, adding that with active cholera cases, many people are at risk of infection.

They added that with the "Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy" motto set by the government, the local authority should focus not just on sweeping markets but also on maintaining good sanitation in toilets at market places.

Efforts to get a comment from the local authority were futile by press time.
