EU ELECTION OBSERVERS ENGAGE NAMWALA OFFICIALS AHEAD OF 13TH AUGUST POLLS
The European Union Election Observation Mission today, 3rd August 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Namwala District Electoral Office at the Namwala Town Council offices as part of its observation of Zambia’s 13th August 2026 General Election.
The EU delegation comprised Jan Schroth, Ana Rita Mira, and Nanyendo Habuyeni Kaile, all Long-Term Observers.
The delegation was received on behalf of the Namwala District Electoral Officer, by the Returning Officers for Namwala West Constituency and Namwala East Constituency, the District Voter Education and Publicity (DVEP) Coordinator, and the Technical Support Officer.
During the meeting, the observers sought an update on the district’s preparedness for the upcoming polls, including progress made, successes recorded, and challenges encountered in the implementation of electoral activities.
Discussions also focused on the implementation of the Voter Education Programme in Namwala District, including the methods used, voter education materials distributed, key topics covered, and strategies employed to ensure that eligible voters were adequately informed ahead of polling day. The district team highlighted that voter education was conducted through various platforms, including door-to-door sensitisation, community meetings, workplace engagements, radio programmes, and other outreach activities.
The Mission further enquired about gender participation during voter education activities and the experiences of engaging different groups of voters. The district team emphasised the importance of inclusive voter education to ensure equal access to electoral information for both men and women.
The delegation was also scheduled to observe the official receipt of ballot papers by Namwala District later in the day, marking another important milestone in preparations for the 13th August 2026 General Election.
Namwala District appreciates the European Union Election Observation Mission for engaging with district electoral officials and reaffirming the importance of transparency, accountability, and stakeholder collaboration in strengthening Zambia’s democratic processes.
Zambia goes to the polls on 13th August 2026.
One small factual point to confirm before publishing: earlier drafts mentioned 12th August 2026, while this final version uses 13th August 2026. Ensure the official election date is consistent throughout all ECZ communications.
