The Electoral Commission of Zambia in Petauke District has commenced a five-day intensive training programme for Voter Education Facilitators who will later be deployed to conduct voter education activities ahead of the August general elections.
During the training, participants are expected to take part in both group and individual presentations aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge required for field operations during the voter education exercise.
Petauke District DVEC Chairperson Pastor Johnson Chambwa urged the trainees to remain attentive throughout the programme, stating that participants would also undergo individual assessments to evaluate their understanding of voter education content and determine their preparedness to effectively deliver voter education information in the field. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and efficiency in carrying out their duties.
Meanwhile, Petauke District Electoral Officer Kelvin Banda, who officially opened the training, encouraged participants to remain committed while working in communities. He noted that the true success of elections lies not only in celebrating the winners but also in the acceptance of results by those who lose. Mr. Banda further advised voter educators to share experiences, remain impartial, and provide accurate information to the public. He also urged participants to treat the training with the seriousness it deserves, considering the importance of the forthcoming electoral process.
Additionally, training for District Conflict Management Committees has commenced at Alpha Lodge. Districts participating in the training include Nyimba, Petauke, Lusangazi and Sinda. The training aims to equip committee members with skills to effectively resolve conflicts during the nomination and campaign periods. The programme is expected to conclude on Friday.
