Your opinion is very important to us. The town, Beitbridge, is named after Alfred Beit, a British citizen who found the De Beers diamond mining company. It is at the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Beitbridge Town is the southernmost town of the country and is in Matabeleland South Province. The name also refers to the Beitbridge Border Post, the busiest inland border post in Sub-Saharan

Africa; about three thousand (3000) people cross the border on a daily basis. The town, founded in 1929, was for many years the terminus of the railway fromPretoria, until a rail connection to Rutenga was built in 1974. Beitbridge Town Council was granted its town status in August 2005. Previously a Town Board under the Beitbridge Rural District Council administered the town; a Town Council was then established and came into being on the 1st of July 2007. The Town Council area is divided into six wards, each with an elected councillor. Its mandate as a local authority is to provide services to the community of Beitbridge. The total coverage of the town is 83 square kilometres and its population has doubled from 22 000 in 2002 population census to approximately 43 000 according 2012 population census figures. Due to the proximity of the town to South Africa, most people from the inland districts flock into Beitbridge to do trade and others finally settle in Beitbridge.

Strengthening Our Frontlines

The Municipality of Beitbridge and Beitbridge Rural District Council in collaboration with the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), are proud to announce the graduation of 21 firefighters who successfully completed an intensive ten-week certification program. The pass-out parade, held today, marks a significant enhancement in the district’s capacity to manage emergencies and protect lives and property.

The comprehensive training curriculum, facilitated by the AFZ, equipped the graduates with specialized skills in:
Core Fundamentals: Elements of combustion, fire extinction, and practical firemanship.
Technical Operations: Pump operations, hydraulic systems, and foam equipment.
Specialized Rescue: Aircraft crash response, road traffic collision rescue, and handling hazardous materials.
Prevention & Infrastructure: Building construction and basic fire prevention strategies.

The pass-out parade was a proud moment for our community, graced by Hon. Albert Nguluvhe, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Air Commodore Kingsley Zimbudzana (Director General Training, AFZ), Cllr Emmanuel Takutaku (representing His Worship the Mayor), Mr. Mugodzwa (representing the District Development Coordinator), Cllr Oscar Chiromo, Council Chairperson Beitbridge Rural District Council, Mr Loud Ramakgapola , Town Clerk , Municipality of Beitbridge, Mrs. K. Mbedzi (CEO, Beitbridge Rural District Council).

A Milestone for Our Healthcare

Today, April 27, 2026, marks a pivotal moment for our town. In a major boost to our local infrastructure, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South, Hon. Albert Nguluvhe (MP), handed over a vital donation of 20 000 standard bricks and 100 bags of cement for the construction of Mabidi Clinic.

The project, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is a direct investment in the health and well-being of our community, aligning perfectly with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 for equitable healthcare access.

A huge thank you to Minister Nguluvhe, for pushing this vital project forward. We also echo the call to our local business community, let’s join hands and contribute to these essential council projects.

Let’s celebrate this progress, Beitbridge! Together, we are building a healthier future.

Mayor Cllr Peter Mafuta Pirato Champions Rehabilitation and Family Bonds during Beitbridge Prison Visit

In a heartfelt show of solidarity and civic support, His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Peter Mafuta Pirato, visited Beitbridge Prison in support of the Family Week. The visit centered on the vital role of rehabilitation and the importance of maintaining social ties during prison time.
Addressing the inmates, Mayor Pirato delivered a message of hope, emphasizing that their current circumstances do not define their future. "Being in prison is not the end of the world," the Mayor remarked. "View this period as a season of reflection and correction, a place to transform mistakes into lessons so that you may return to society as productive citizens."
Recognizing the emotional weight of the week, the Mayor spent time interacting with visiting families, commending them for their loyalty. He also highlighted the plight of inmates whose families live in distant regions and cannot visit.
"We are here particularly for those who feel forgotten," Mayor Pirato stated. "For those whose relatives stay far away and do not receive these visits, we stand in the gap. The Municipality of Beitbridge recognizes your humanity and remains committed to supporting the reintegration process".

Beitbridge conducts 4th National Clean-Up

In a proactive start to the Easter weekend and Independence month, the Municipality of Beitbridge and stakeholders successfully conducted its fourth National Clean-Up exercise of the year at the National Housing flats project.

While the clean-up is traditionally observed on the first Friday of every month, this edition was done a day earlier to accommodate the Easter holidays. Given that April is Independence Month, the exercise specifically targeted "legacy projects" initiatives that represent the enduring progress of the nation.
The National Housing flats represent a transformative development for the town. Beyond improving the local aesthetics, this massive project is a critical step toward resolving the long-standing accommodation challenges faced by civil servants.
The Municipality extends its sincere gratitude to all community members and stakeholders who participated. A special mention goes to ZIMBORDERS and ZETDC for their overwhelming turnout and support. Their consistent commitment to the town's welfare truly defines them as "all-weather friends" of the municipality.
Together, we are building a cleaner, more sustainable environment that honors our national heritage.
