Batanai Masunda
I am so touched by the number of the
vulnerable groups coming to me enquiring on
the government's plan in cushioning them from
hunger during the recently announced lockdown
restrictions starting today, 5 January 2021 .
Over 80% of Epworth Residents survive from
vending and the informal sector. The elderly and
the disabled are the most affected in the
community. Their livelihoods have been
disturbed for the next 30 days and there is no
way out. COVID 19 is real and everyone knows
and is willing to adhere to the measures put in
place by the gvt to curb the spread of the
pandemic. With the rate at which people are
being infected, there is great need to adhere to
WHO guidelines and Zimbabwean govt efforts
to minimize the effects of the pandemic.
Our Government must as well look at the plight
of its citizens considering the economic
hardships that we face as a Nation , and our
vulnerable groups are no exception. I urge
responsible authorities to take this as an urgent
matter and find a way of feeding the people. In
as much as the country budgets for uniformed
forces/services on the enforcement of set
rules, the gvt must also budget to feed ppl.

Reduce law enforcers and at least subsidize
their (vulnerable) meals . I hope , believe and
trust that there shall be a way to help
vulnerable groups out.
To fellow Zimbabweans in and out of Epworth,
and those in Diaspora, I also appeal to you to
remember the elderly and those living with
disabilities. They need our hand to survive.
COVID 19 is Real. Let us adhere to the call to
Stay home. Adhere to set rules and regulations
to stop the spread of the pandemic. I love you
all. God bless you.
