Competitive Authoritarianism Country.
Let me start by the meaning competitive authoritarianism. In a competitive authoritarian regime, "formal democratic institutions exist and are widely viewed as the primary means of gaining power, but ... incumbents' abuse of the state places them at a significant advantage vis-à-vis their opponents. “Competitive authoritarianism must be distinguished from democracy on the one hand and full-scale authoritarianism on the other.
Modern democratic regimes all meet four minimum criteria:
1) Executives and legislatures are chosen through elections that are open, free, and fair;
2) Virtually all adults possess the right to vote;
3) Political rights and civil liberties, including freedom of the press, freedom of association, and freedom to criticize the government without reprisal, are broadly protected; and
4) Elected authorities possess real authority to govern, in that they are not subject to the tutelary control of military or clerical leaders.
5) Although elections are regularly held and are generally free of massive fraud, incumbents routinely abuse state resources, deny the opposition adequate media coverage, harass opposition candidates and their supporters, and in some cases, manipulate electoral results. Journalists, opposition politicians, and other government critics may be spied on, threatened, harassed, or arrested. Members of the opposition may be jailed, exiled, or—less frequently—even assaulted or murdered. Regimes characterized by such abuses cannot be called democratic.
Competitive authoritarianism must therefore be distinguished from unstable, ineffective, or otherwise flawed types of regimes that nevertheless meet basic standards of democracy. According to O’Donnell, delegative democracies are characterized by low levels of horizontal accountability (checks and balances) and therefore exhibit powerful, plebiscitarian, and occasionally abusive executives. Rather than openly violating democratic rules (for example, by banning or repressing the opposition and the media), incumbents are more likely to use bribery, co-optation, and more subtle forms of persecution, such as the use of tax authorities, compliant judiciaries, and other state agencies to “legally” harass, persecute, or extort cooperative behaviour from critics.
1.The Electoral Arena.
The first and most important arena of contestation is the electoral arena. In authoritarian regimes, elections either do not exist or are not seriously contested. Electoral competition is eliminated either de jure, or de facto. In the latter, opposition parties are routinely banned or disqualified from electoral competition, and opposition leaders are often jailed. In addition, independent or outside observers are prevented from verifying results via parallel vote counts, which creates widespread opportunities for vote stealing. In competitive authoritarian regimes, elections are often bitterly fought. Although the electoral process may be characterized by large-scale abuses of state power, biased media coverage, (often violent) harassment of opposition candidates and activists, and an overall lack of transparency.

2)The legislative arena.
A second arena of contestation is the legislature. In most full-scale authoritarian regimes, legislatures either do not exist or are so thoroughly controlled by the ruling party that conflict between the legislature and the executive branch is virtually unthinkable.
3)The judicial arena.
A third arena of potential contestation is the judiciary. Governments in competitive authoritarian regimes routinely attempt to subordinate the judiciary, often via impeachment, or, more subtly, through bribery, extortion, and other mechanisms of co-optation.
Although competitive authoritarian governments may subsequently punish judges who rule against them, such acts against formally independent judiciaries may generate important costs in terms of domestic and international legitimacy.
4) The media.
Finally, the media are often a central point of contention in competitive authoritarian regimes. In most full-blown autocracies, the media are entirely state-owned, heavily censored, or systematically repressed. Leading television and radio stations are controlled by the government (or its close allies), and major independent newspapers and magazines are either prohibited by law in dure or de facto. Journalists who provoke the ire of the government risk arrest, deportation, and even assassination.
Executives in competitive authoritarian regimes often actively seek to suppress the independent media, using more subtle mechanisms of repression than their counterparts in authoritarian regimes. These methods often include bribery, the selective allocation of state advertising, the manipulation of debts and taxes owed by media outlets, the fomentation of conflicts among stockholders, and restrictive press laws that facilitate the prosecution of independent and opposition journalists
Con A third arena of potential contestation is the judiciary. Governments in competitive authoritarian regimes routinely attempt to subordinate the judiciary, often via impeachment, or, more subtly, through bribery, extortion, and other mechanisms of
co-optation.
Although competitive authoritarian governments may subsequently punish judges who rule against them, such acts against formally independent judiciaries may generate important costs in terms of domestic and international legitimacy.
Conclusion
In my own opinion there is no democracy in our country and this is the script which derives the position of our country and the direction we are leading. This has to be stopped citizens. This regime is Using bribery, co-optation, and various forms of “legal” persecution. NEW FRESH ELECTION 2024 supervised SADC and the international observers will answer or political crises. The Mantra Nyika Inovakwa ne Vene Vayo is misleading. (Its only benefiting the elite).

The unprecedented legal challenges being faced in our courts were caused by the ZEC and the judiciary. The incompetent part of has left the country in a quagmire position. Who suffers is us Zimbabweans. Well, we have lost respect all over the world. Our dignity has been eroded because we can not solve our own problems as a nation. If the rule of law was being applied without fear and favour by now, Zimbabwe would be a greater nation. 43 years under the leadership of ZANU PF, nothing has changed. it's just the repetition of the old dirty tricks each and every he elections. This 2023 election is already rigged and should be boycotted paving the way for a GNU otherwise its another suffering of Zimbabweans for the next five years. Wake up, citizens, and let's stop being used.
2023, it's a done deal by Zanu Pf. To stop further suffering, genuine opposition with the people at the centre will not continue under this environment and circumstances stated below;

1. Opposition members are being kill
2. Opposition members like Job Sikhala and Godfrey Ngaruvhume are languishing in prison and many others.
3. The monthlanta commission has not been finalised, and the victims have not been compensated.
4. The Reforms have not been implemented.
5. The delimitation report has not been corrected or revised.
6. The main voters roll is not yet available.
Having analysed all these issues, one can easily tell that we are going to have a disputed election and we have a rerun, and the judiciary declares the win, and it's obviously ZANU PF.
My message to all genuine opposition political parties, who have the people of Zimbabwe at heart and want the best of the nation. This is the time to say no to a sham election. This is the time to boycott the elections and speak with one voice. As long as we are divided, ZANU PF will rule forever. They mastered this game and no very well how to play the chess. We might be pulling as crowds at campaign rallies, but that does not mean that they will turn up and vote on the 23rd, and also, it does not mean they will vote for change. The best is to BOYCOTT We deserve better citizens.

ELVIS NYATHI ZIMBABWEAN BEING BRUTALLY KILLED AND THEN BURNT BY MOB IN DIEPSLOOT.
As a citizen an a political leader in Zimbabwe l am deeply concerned with the situation in South Africa. The recent killings of Elvis Nyathi and other Zimbabwean Nationals in South Africa has become a worrying trend in most of South Africa's low income communities particularly in informal settlements. l condemn the killings as a criminal act targeted against fellow Africans. I strongly feel the South African Government has not done enough to protects the rights and dignity of immigrant workers. As Africa's biggest and most industrialized economy, l acknowledge and appreciate the fact that South Africa hosts a huge population of immigrants. People flock everyday into South Africa from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Central Africa and even as far as west Africa seeking opportunities. Consequently this has put enormous pressure on South African economy and on service provision. This pressure does not however justify the inhumane treatment and killing of these undocumented foreign nationals. l learnt with dismay, the operations of a vigilante group known as Dudula movement which has taken the role of both the Police and Home affairs. They go around asking for documentation from foreign nationals and effecting arrests as well as committing various crimes. l therefore urge all the Political, religious and traditional leaders as well as the government to put an end to this Afrophobia.it has no place free civilised society that respects rights of individuals whatever the creed colour religion place of birth and Nationality.

What is the timetable for by-elections?
A new Writ is usually issued within three months of the vacancy. There have been a few times when seats remained vacant longer than six months. Seats will be left vacant towards the end of a Parliament. They are then filled at the general election.

If there are many vacant seats by-elections can take place on the same day.

The by-election timetable is between 21 and 27 working days from the issuing of the writ.

26/03/2022

BY- election are meant to replace candidates that have been recalled, resigned or died who have participated in the previous election . In this case we are referring to the 2018 general elections. This means MDC,Zanu PF and any other elected party candidates should be the ones contesting in this by-election. In view if this Zvido Zvevanhu People's Party will not be participating as we are a newly party formed after the elections and therefore we comply with the Supreme Constitution on this Subject.

ZANUPF amazes me.

It wants to sue the American Government against sanctions in a South African court😂😂

This explains the harebrained things that ZANUPF does to our economy, politics, social life and country.

They think a South African court can compel a foreign country?😂😂

This level of absurdity is what we deal with daily as Zimbabweans living in the country.
