Matepe Mbira Master Chaka Chawasarira (82 years old), supported by Othnell Mangoma Moyo, gave an inspiring masterclass to mbira students last Thursday at Music Crossroads Academy Zimbabwe. The masterclass was part of a cultural preservation project funded by the German Foreign Office, with the aim of preserving and promoting the Matepe mbira by documenting the extensive repertoire of Maestro Chawasarira.
The Matepe mbira is currently only played by a handful of musicians but after the inspiring class we are excited and looking forward to having more people put the newly acquired knowledge to use, explore this niche and carry on this unique cultural legacy.

🇩🇪 🎉 Today marks a historic day not only in Germany’s history - the Fall of the Berlin Wall on the 9th of November 1989 🎉🇩🇪
This monumental event united East and West after having being divided for almost three decades, and reshaping the postwar world.
Also known as , the end of the in was symbolised by the .
105 years ago, Philipp Scheidemann proclaimed the German Republic in Berlin. This marked the end of the German Empire which was consequently transformed into a democratic Republic.
85 years ago, the Pogrom night or “night of broken glasses” with the devastation of synagogues and the terror against Jewish citizens took place.
This night was a harbinger of the Shoah crime against humanity. We Germans therefore have a special responsibility to combat anti-Semitism and we say to the world, especially in these days: Never again!
34 years ago, the wall dividing Germany fell. East and West Germany became one again. After years of separation, friends and family were finally reunited again - a day of hope.

Matobo - well worth a visit!
The rains have come but it would take a whole season of heavy rains to wash away the intricate artistic hut paintings of the women of Matobo.
Year after year, once the harvests are brought in, many women of the Matobo region gather natural pigments like soil, charcoal or ground stone and decorate their rural homesteads with unique designs, using toothbrushes, sticks and even chicken feathers.
The German Embassy aims to promote this beautiful Ndebele tradition through various projects.
On her last visit to Bulawayo, our Head of Cultural Affairs seeked out some of those artists to learn more about this unique tradition and even had the chance to try her hands on - it was not easy!
Thank you, Sikhulile Hlongwane, for taking Katrin around to visit some of the amazing women artists of Ward 17 👍🏼🙏🏽
Thank you, dear ladies, for receiving her in your beautiful homesteads: Eddie Ndlovu, Thokozile Dube, Tshiyiwe Dube, Attila Moyo, Thulisa Ndlovu 🙏🏼

I am Pauline and I have been working as a legal trainee at the German Embassy in Harare for the past three months. During this time I have been able to get to know all areas of the embassy and worked on various tasks in the administration, the legal and consular section as well as the political, economic and cultural sections. This diversity in particular made every day exciting and varied!📚🗂️💡
In my free time, I had the opportunity to travel through beautiful Zimbabwe! Be it a herd of elephants in Hwange National Park, a canoe trip on the Zambezi River or sight of Victoria Falls - every moment was unique. I am grateful for all these experiences and already know: I will be back!🐘🦒☀️“
Thank you, Pauline, for supporting us in our different departments 🙏🏼
Wishing you a safe return flight home ✈️ and all the best for your upcoming exams as well as for your future endeavours 👍🏼🤗
In line with the statement of the EU High Representative Josep Borrell, the EU Ambassadors deplore the continuous and extensive disinformation and defamation campaign waged against the EU Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM) including through official channels and statements.

We reiterate our full support to the work conducted by the EU-EOM in an independent, impartial, fact-based and professional way in compliance with the administrative agreement concluded with the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Over the past few weeks, a group of German architects, craftsmen and students collaborated together with local artisans, designers and resident artists in the architectural development of the Mbare Art Space 🇩🇪🇿🇼
German Ambassador Udo Volz and colleagues visited this exciting community-based urban renewal project (which used to be former beer hall, by the way) last week to see the outcome of this creative synergy.
On this occasion, the Ambassador also visited the tree he had planted in 2021 next to the solar-powered borehole 💦 which serves the Mbare community and was funded by the embassy.
The German Embassy would like to highlight that the EU had sent an Observation Mission for the Harmonised Elections upon invitation of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
The Mission concluded that while peace & calm prevailed across the country, pre-election & Election Day processes fell short in significant areas against regional & international standards.

Happy Birthday 🥳
On this day today, in 1749, German poet, playwright, novelist, philosopher, statesman, theatre director, critic and artist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born. Goethe, fluent in several languages, wrote also about scientific matters and was regarded as an „universal genius“.
His body of work includes not only numerous poems, several plays and famous novels like „Faust“, but also quotes which still apply today.
How about this one: „One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words.“
Which one is your favourite?
