Celebrating Zimbabwe's Unique and Diverse Heritage

Zimbabwe is a country rich in cultural, natural and liberation heritage that is celebrated today and throughout the year. As we celebrate Independence Day, we pay homage and celebrate this heritage that gives us a unique identity that makes us Zimbabwean.

From the magnificent rock art sites dotted around the country, to the hissing waters of the majestic Victoria Falls and the iconic soapstone Zimbabwe Birds, Zimbabwe's diverse heritage is testament to the resilience and creativity of its people.

We take this opportunity to embrace and celebrate our cultural diversity, as we continue to build a united and prosperous Zimbabwe.

Happy Independence Day Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

Closing ceremony of the United States Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation - Great Zimbabwe Conservation Project

In 2018, the US government, through the US Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Presevation, gave NMMZ US$475000 to help preserve the monuments.

The fund covered 3 components:
• lantana camara control,
• conservation of dry stone walls
• installation of an electronic wall monitoring system.

A real time electronic monitoring system was installed around the walls by an Italian structural engineer. Training of NMMZ stone masons was also carried out.

National Museums and Monuments is grateful for the support rendered towards the conservation of the Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site.

Reflecting on Zimbabwe's Journey to Independence

As we countdown towards Zimbabwe's Independence Day, it is important to reflect on the journey that led us here.

It was on April 18th, 1980 that Zimbabwe gained independence from British colonial rule after years of struggle and sacrifice.

The road to independence was not an easy one. It was marked by fierce resistance against colonialism, with many brave men and women sacrificing their lives for the cause.

The Zimbabwe Independence Flame is an enduring symbol of the country's struggle for freedom and its commitment to building a better future for all its citizens.

As the flame continues to burn brightly, it serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for independence, and a beacon of hope for the generations to come.
