ADVANCING WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP AND GENDER EQUALITY IN CHIVI

The Ministry in partnership with Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe conducted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Gender Equality Dialogue at BSPZ, Chivi.

The dialogue brought together 26 stakeholders, including , councillors, church leaders and Government representatives, to strengthen understanding of gender equality, women’s leadership and shared decision-making in .

Participants explored barriers to women’s leadership and were sensitised on key policy and legal frameworks supporting women’s participation in leadership, including , the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Maputo Protocol, the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the National Gender Protocol.

Traditional and community leaders were encouraged to champion women’s participation in leadership and decision-making, while men were urged to become allies in advancing gender equality.

Stakeholders committed to working together to create communities where women and men have equal rights, equal opportunities and equal respect.

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SAVINGS AND FINANCIAL INCLUSION

The Ministry in collaboration with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), conducted an Internal Savings and Lending (SALs) Groups Formation Sensitisation programme in Ward 21, Hurungwe District.

The engagement, held at Hesketh Business Centre, brought together 60 community members who were capacitated on the Internal Savings and Lending (ISALs) methodology, group formation, savings culture, financial discipline and access to capital.

Participants committed to forming new ISALs groups to strengthen household incomes, grow businesses and build economic resilience.

The Ministry also encouraged more men to participate in ISALs, alongside women, to broaden community access to savings and financial empowerment opportunities.

Through continued training, mentorship and linkages to financial literacy and Government empowerment programmes, ISALs remain a powerful tool for inclusive economic empowerment and poverty reduction.

Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Hon. Monica Mutsvangwa, has commended Women and Land in Zimbabwe for empowering rural women and strengthening their participation in agriculture and economic development.

Speaking at the national launch of the International Year of Women Farmers during the organisation’s 10th Rural Women’s Assembly Conference in Chegutu District, Hon. Mutsvangwa highlighted Government’s efforts to strengthen women’s land tenure security, improve access to agricultural finance and promote women’s participation in devolved governance structures.

She urged rural women farmers to move beyond primary production and embrace value addition, noting that processing, packaging and branding agricultural produce can increase incomes, create jobs, reduce post-harvest losses and drive rural industrialisation.

The conference brought together rural women, policymakers and representatives from across Africa for dialogue and knowledge-sharing on land rights, food sovereignty, climate justice, market access, agroecology and rural financing.

The inspiring testimonies of women farmers demonstrated the growing contribution of rural women to household incomes, food security, agricultural value chains and Zimbabwe’s rural development agenda.

It was an exciting third day of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Week 2026 which was as officially opened this afternoon by the Vice President of Zimbabwe, Hon. Col. (Rtd.) Dr. K.C.D. Mohadi in Masvingo.

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development was one of the few selected exhibitors which had the honour of hosting the Honorable Vice President at its exhibition stand as he toured the exhibition area this afternoon.

During the visit, the Director Strategic Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Ms. V. Mashangwa walked the Vice President through the Ministry’s programmes, interventions and achievements.

Her enlightening presentation to the Honorable Vice President elaborated how evidence, data and learning are being used to strengthen programme implementation, accountability and service delivery within the Ministry.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Ministry to highlight its commitment to evidence-based programming and results-driven development, in line with the national development agenda and the attainment of Vision 2030.

MWACSMED is participating alongside other Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and development partners among other stakeholders in MEL Week 2026.

The event is providing a platform for sharing evidence, knowledge, lessons learnt and innovative approaches to strengthening public sector performance.

Day 2 of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Week 2026 continued with a strong focus on how evidence, data and adaptive monitoring can be harnessed to improve public sector performance and accelerate national development results.

Today’s discussions explored how evidence can be translated into tangible results for children under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), while participants gained insights into effective data collection tools and analysis and the importance of institutionalising MEL evidence in planning, budgeting and performance management.

The programme further examined the need to move from compliance to impact, positioning Monitoring and Evaluation as a critical tool for informing national planning, budgeting and the achievement of NDS2 results.

As MEL Week progresses, the message remains clear: quality data, credible evidence and continuous learning are essential to improving service delivery, strengthening accountability and accelerating Zimbabwe’s development towards and .

The team leader, Director Strategic Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Ms. V. Mashangwa had a productive meeting with Mr. Paul Stockton, the Managing Director of Olive Data, a company which specializes in digital data collection program management performance monitoring and reporting.

The meeting was forward-looking, providing an opportunity for the team to engage with Olive Data on how digital data collection, programme performance monitoring and reporting can strengthen the Ministry’s monitoring and evaluation processes.

The discussions explored potential areas of collaboration and the use of digital solutions to improve data-driven decision-making, accountability and service delivery in the Ministry.

Now we look forward to the official opening of the event by the Vice President of Zimbabwe Hon.Col.(Rtd.) Dr.K.C.D. Mohadi tomorrow.

Zimbabwean Take Their Products to the Mozambican Market

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development is facilitating market access for local businesses through participation at the 61st Edition of the International Trade Fair (FACIM), running from 31 August to 6 September 2026 in Mozambique.

The Ministry is showcasing a total of eleven MSMEs and one cooperative at the international trade fair, with participating businesses drawn from the agro-processing, leather, honey, agriculture and jewellery sectors.

With FACIM bringing together more than 2,000 local, regional and international exhibitors, the exhibition provides Zimbabwean enterprises with an important platform to showcase their products, connect with potential buyers and explore new regional markets.

A key highlight of the Ministry’s participation is the showcasing of Valley Sharks Banana Chips, a uniquely Zimbabwean product being positioned for the Mozambican market. Through facilitation by ZIMTRADE, a dedicated stand has been secured for the product, with the Ministry exhibiting on behalf of the enterprise.

The response has already been encouraging, with five distributors expressing strong interest in distributing Valley Sharks Banana Chips in Mozambique, citing the product’s uniqueness and limited competition within the potato-crisp market.

This is market access in action — connecting Zimbabwean and cooperatives to regional opportunities, expanding their markets and creating pathways for enterprise growth.

It was an exciting first day of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Week 2026 which brought together Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, local authorities, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and other key stakeholders.

With a programme running throughout the week, MEL Week 2026 is providing a valuable platform for stakeholders to share evidence, knowledge and innovative approaches aimed at strengthening public service delivery and driving improved development outcomes in Zimbabwe.

Today’s day was set off by opening remarks from the Head of National Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning in the office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) Ms. F. Madambi who was followed Ms. C. Makuvire who shared on the importance of Monitoring, Evaluationsnd Learning (MEL) in Strengthening Governance and Development Outcomes.

Other presenters included Dr. H. Chikova from the PSC who gave a presentation on the Public Service Performance Management and Accountability for Results and Dr. S. Muyengwa who is the president of the Zimbabwe Evaluation Association (ZEA).

Other key discussions focused on citizen satisfaction, adaptive MEL systems, M&E in rural councils, country programme evaluation, youth entrepreneurship and job creation, M&E education, circular economy approaches, as well as digital innovation in public services.

The conversations highlighted the power of evidence, citizen-responsive systems, innovation and continuous learning in advancing Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

The participating Ministry team is being led by the Director of Strategic Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Ms. V Mashangwa.

President hails women as key drivers of national development

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hailed the increasing participation of women in all spheres of national development, describing women’s empowerment and economic participation as critical to Zimbabwe’s attainment of Vision 2030.

Speaking at the second Young Women for Economic Development (YW4ED) Business Convention, the President commended the growing presence of young women in leadership, noting that a number of YW4ED members are now occupying elected positions in local authorities.

He also applauded the increasing number of women graduating from institutions of higher and tertiary learning with specialised skills, while highlighting the role of Government empowerment programmes, including the Presidential Empowerment Fund, in supporting women-led enterprises.

“All women should make money and own wealth,” President Mnangagwa said, urging young women to seize opportunities in agriculture and other sectors of the economy.

He challenged young women to speak out and take action against social ills, including gender-based violence, child marriages, drug and substance abuse.

Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, highlighted Government interventions to improve women’s access to finance, business skills, markets, working spaces, technology and entrepreneurship development.

She also urged the private sector to integrate young women into supply chains, procurement opportunities, mentorship programmes and employment, stressing that economic empowerment must go hand in hand with women’s safety, dignity and protection from GBV.

The convention brought together more than 8 000 young women from all 10 provinces, with Cabinet Ministers outlining opportunities available to young women in agriculture, tourism, industry, mining and youth development.

The YW4ED movement, under the patronage of First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, was established five years ago and continues to drive young women’s participation in Zimbabwe’s economic development towards Vision 2030 and beyond.
