Tomato prices are starting to stabilise after recent increases caused by shortages in major production areas. The shortages were largely attributed to slow ripening because of the low temperatures.

Current market observations show that a 30kg crate of tomatoes is selling for approximately US$48 in Dombotombo, while in Gadzema, Chinhoyi, the same quantity is trading at around US$35.

As more tomatoes mature and enter the market, supplies are expected to improve, helping to ease price pressures and restore market stability.

AMA continues to monitor market trends and provide timely market information to support informed decision-making by farmers, traders, and consumers.

The approved grain procurement framework, developed in partnership with the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX), provides a transparent and efficient platform for the buying and selling of locally produced grain. The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) and Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX) are pleased to announce the approval and immediate operationalisation of the Local Grain Procurement and Import Verification Framework.

The framework promotes the uptake of locally produced grain while ensuring agro-processors continue to access supplementary imports when necessary. Under the new arrangement, grain buyers and agro-processors will be required to source a minimum of 40% of their grain requirements locally before qualifying for import permits.

This initiative is expected to:
✅ Strengthen demand for local grain
✅ Improve price transparency and market efficiency
✅ Enhance food security planning
✅ Expand market access for farmers through decentralised grain auction markets

The Agricultural Marketing Authority participated in the Masvingo District Value Addition, Market Linkages and Business Fair held at Tashinga Garden in Ward 12, Masvingo District.

As the lead market regulator and facilitator within Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector, AMA continues to drive practical market linkage platforms that connect farmers, producer groups, buyers, agro-dealers, financial institutions, and development partners.

The fair provided a strategic platform for farmer groups and horticulture enterprises to engage directly with off-takers, strengthen collective marketing initiatives, access market intelligence, and gain practical insights on grading, packaging, food safety standards, post-harvest handling, and market compliance.

The Agricultural Marketing Authority is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2026 Cotton Marketing Season which will run from 18 May to 31 July 2026.

Cotton remains a strategic crop that supports rural livelihoods. This season, the Authority remains committed to ensuring an orderly, transparent, and fair marketing environment for all stakeholders across the cotton value chain.

Approved minimum producer prices for the 2026 season are as follows:

Grade A - US$0.43/kg
Grade B - US$0.41/kg
Grade C - US$0.38/kg
Grade D - US$0.35/kg

NB 70% shall be paid in USD and the balance of 30% in local currency as per RBZ Guidelines.

Any form of side marketing will not be tolerated.

The Agricultural Marketing Authority, as a member of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Society (ZAS) Cotton Section, is participating in the adjudication process for the provincial cotton farmer selections.

Working alongside fellow Cotton Section members including ZAS, ARDAS, Cottco, Quton Seed Company, and the Kadoma Cotton Research Institute, the team is assessing outstanding farmers under categories such as Best Female Cotton Farmer, Best Youth Cotton Farmer, and the National Overall Best Cotton Farmer.

Yesterday, the adjudication team visited Mashonaland East Province, covering Mutoko and Murehwa, where farmers continue to demonstrate commitment, resilience, and excellence in cotton production.

We commend all farmers participating in this year’s selections and celebrate their contribution to Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.
