The Wife of Minister of State for Provincial for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Matabeleland North Province Mrs S Moyo led a clean-up campaign at Benice Business Centre,Umguza District under the Zero Tolerance to Waste Movement. The Clean-up was joined by the Permanent Secretary for State Affairs and Devolution Ms S N Ncube and other stakeholders.

This initiative strengthens the vision of the First Lady and Patron of the Environment, Amai Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa, inspiring communities, traditional leaders, and the business sector to embrace the Zero Waste Movement. By reducing, reusing, recycling, and supporting clean‑up campaigns daily, we can achieve a cleaner, greener Zimbabwe.

Collective responsibility is the path to Vision 2030 and to building a legacy of environmental stewardship for generations to come. Today's Clean-up emphasised the need to instil the culture of cleanliness in our children. The Guest of Honour urged parents that training our children to make up their beds, clean their rooms and the home is not cruelty, instead, it is teaching them responsibility. A child who cleans will be very alert to where they put thier waste.

*Environment Management Board Commends Community-Led Wetland Restoration in Makonde District*

The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) mandate is broadly to ensure the sustainable utilisation of natural resources, prevention of pollution and environmental degradation through a range of regulatory, monitoring, environmental education and awareness activities aimed at enhancing environmental stewardship.
In line with this mandate, the Environment Management Board's committee for Environmental Management Services (EMS) led by Mrs Rugare Dhobbie, on 28 May 2026 visited the Ditchwe Wetland Integrated Management Project in Ward 4 of Makonde District, Mashonaland West Province, to appreciate community efforts towards wetland restoration and sustainable environmental management.
The Committee, which provides strategic guidance on environmental education and awareness programmes, implementation of environmental projects, biodiversity conservation and livelihood enhancement initiatives, commended the community for its commitment to protecting the Ditchwe Wetland ecosystem.
During the visit, the Committee witnessed the rehabilitation and protection of the wetland core through fencing, a measure introduced to prevent livestock trampling which had previously degraded the wetland. As a result of the restoration efforts, the wetland recharge has significantly improved and the ecosystem is now recovering well and remains largely pristine.
The delegation also toured livelihood projects being implemented by the community, including a bee keeping project with 50 hives, a thriving 2-hectare nutrition garden producing crops such as cabbages, beetroot, sugar beans, butternut and tomatoes. The projects are helping to strengthen household food security, support biodiversity conservation and contribute towards local economic development.
EMA continues to encourage communities across the country to actively participate in sustainable natural resource management and wetland protection in line with national environmental conservation goals.
