“This week we raise awareness on mental health as it is a crucial aspect of our livelihoods.

We look deep into mental health and we realise that in an adverse world where a child's mental health is not in check, one can't smile, sleep or even concentrate on life hence it's important to reach out to the world on mental health issues” - His Worship Nicholas Wela (City of Mutare Junior Mayor)

How To End Child Marriage

Ending child marriage is the need of the hour. In order to end this social evil, everyone from individuals to world leaders must challenge the traditional and religious norms. Moreover, we must do away with ideas that reinforce that girls are inferior to boys.

We must empower the children, especially girls, to become their own agents of change. To achieve this, they must get access to quality education and allow them to complete their studies so they can lead an independent life later on.

Safe spaces are important for children to be able to express themselves and make their voices heard. Thus, it is essential to remove all forms of gender discrimination to ensure everyone is given equal value and protection.

Just a dream.
Growing up dreams made life worth living. That innocent dream of becoming a lawyer, football star, engineer or even a teacher gave reason to wake up each day with a smile, with the excitement and pride that day by day we getting a step closer to achieving that dream.
It is now that I realize the deep meaning of the statement “all it takes is just a dream”. Optimistic as it sounds it has witnessed the bloodshed of many innocent young souls. Young dreams have been sacrificed for the fulfilment of fake and cunning desires of the so called religious elders. Its quite disheartening how the greedy and wicked have sought refugee in religion through justifying their horrible evil doings. A young girl’s dream of becoming someone better in life has been crushed by an old man’s greed. He claims he dreamt she was his wife and surprisingly religion fulfils that dream. How sad. The way this world is operating, it now only takes just a dream to ruin one’s life, just a dream to kill the future, just a dream to marry off young girls to old men.
Young girls being made wives because of dreams, losing their precious lives during child birth all because someone dreamt 14 year old “Memory” was his wife.
Religion should provide comfort in times of trouble, should strengthen our faith during tribulations and most importantly keep us safe from all terrors and perils. But now if a church doctrine is causing loss of life, pain, early marriage, violation of human rights, then it has failed its function, then those doctrines don’t deserve any justification but rather should be eliminated. Young girls deserve a say in their own future, no church doctrine is precious than life.

General information

On the 2nd of September six (6) Junior Councils endorsed for the formation of the NJCA in Gweru on the 10th of December 2011. There it was launched and officially recorded the second child led organization of its sort in the world after Brazil and thus the first in Africa. National Junior Councils Association (NJCA) is to set solid foundations for a brighter future for junior councilors and improve the lives of the youths and children in Zimbabwe by establishing income generating projects to sustain Junior Councils and establish entrepreneurship projects for the youths in bid to eradicate unemployment. Advocating for youth empowerment through monitoring resources allocation, child budget participation and advocate for a child friendly budget and also as junior councilors to be good conductors between the youths and outer business world. Advocating for children in school, empowerment through monitoring their educational facilities, activities and their code of conduct. NJCA is to make sure that junior councils all over Zimbabwe are recognized on a more professional platform as an effective youth and child led organization and take a leading role in the development of the African child. Increase youth participation at local, regional and international level in the system of local governance thus improving the effectiveness and impact of junior councils. To eradicate youth unemployment and improve educational basis of the youth in schools regardless of social status, creed religion and political opinion according to the Educational act (25; 01). Most of all NJCA was founded in order unite all junior councils and resituate inactive junior councils in Cities and Towns where they are not there. NJCA was found by three junior councils (Harare, Mvurwi and Marondera junior councils) in August 2011. The founding Junior Mayors are as follows Maxwell Katunga, Shingirirai Chikazhe and Munyaradzi Tengwa respectively.
