GMOs and other modern agricultural tools have also helped accelerate the adoption of practices such as conservation tillage and no-till, which helps increase carbon sequestration in soil. Brookes and Barfoot (2016) calculated that in 2014 alone, conservation tillage enabled by glyphosate-tolerant GMO corn and soybean removed 22.4 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of taking 10 million cars off the road for a year. That benefit alone should make headlines.

Gokwe farmer i hear them mourn, mourning as they were the cotton basket but now they carry the basket to get it from others...why why, the insect has taken over the land t make it its harvest. Since 1990 cotton suddenly became more labourous and costy because of the económic hardship facing the nation. As report earlier by farmers they say it is even becomiing hard to pay labourers who can spray the cotton and moreover to go over the break even point commercially. Cotton has decreased by 127 tonnes in 2013 because of this cotton eating insects. Genetically Modified cotton also called Bt cotton carry insect resistant properties, no high cost to spray moreover increased harvest which means adequate supply and better income. *we want geneticall modofied crops* in Zimbabwe

Most of the food stuffs we are importing from our neighbouring countries are processed food made from GM crops. Our current industry is incapable of supporting the whole nation with the food they want, let alone the higher prices to buy the locally produced food stuffs. You know why? Because most of the machinery we are using in the industries is obsolete, we are failing to get in pace with the technology. Technology is way ahead of us, see how expensive the internet is in our country and yes by technology I include biotechnology as well. Zimbabwe is a country with educated people but these educated people are going somewhere to build someone's country because the knowledge they gained is regarded useless in their country. Lets consider our ways..

Opponents of genetically modified crops have jumped on the results of a new study, which claims to have linked the consumption of GM maize with the development of tumors in rats -- despite widespread criticism of the research from independent scientists around the world.

The paper, published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, has generated highly tweetable headlines, including the Global Post's alarming announcement that: "Monsanto corn causes tumors in rats, new study finds."

Far below the horrifying pictures of mice with enormous tumors, some of the most frightening articles embed caveats. But, experts say, the criticisms should trump the results of the study, which used questionable methods, tumor-prone rats, and poor statistical techniques.

The research also came out of a French research lab, whose anti-GM studies have been harshly criticized in the past.
