Today, the Forestry Commission Mashonaland Central Province joined hands with Doves Zimbabwe and other stakeholders and ushered in the August school break with a successful tree planting initiative at Neshangwe Primary School in Ward 9, Mbire District.
The event was inspired by a commendable act of environmental stewardship by Grade 5 learner Mukudzei Muzivi, who requested that a tree planting ceremony be held at her school after witnessing a program where the Patron for Environment and Tourism, Her Excellency the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa planted a tree at Chitsungo Hospital.
Doves-Zimbabwe responded to het request and generously donated 200 assorted fruit trees, while World Vision, a long-standing development partner in the area, supported the initiative through installation of a reliable water supply system and establishment of a state-of-the-art nursery equipped with automated irrigation.
Prior to the planting ceremony, stakeholders toured several environmental conservation projects at the school, including last year's tree planting site, the modern nursery, and ongoing conservation works on gully reclamation.
The Forestry Commission applauds the collaborative efforts of all partners and stakeholders, including ZimParks, Mbire Rural District Council, the School Development Committee, school staff, learners, and the local community, whose commitment continues to promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Together, we are nurturing not only trees, but a generation of environmental champions.
Trees Are Life!
