Hawai’i ocean humans!!

If you have photos of pilot whales in Hawaiian waters please consider contributing them to our photo-ID catalog. This individual, with fishing line coming from the mouth, was photographed by Dennis Fukushima a couple of weeks ago off Kona, and we are hoping to get follow-up photos to assess how the animal does after being hooked, or better determine when it was originally hooked. In the photo you can see stalked barnacles that are either growing on the hook or on exposed teeth associated with the injury.

If you have photos you are willing to contribute please contact us at Hawaii (at) cascadiaresearch.org - we do not share photos or use them without permission (and thanks to Dennis for permission to share his photo!)

On the ground in Gache Gache, Kariba to plan our newest project.
There is nothing like being under the stars, interacting with the children and sharing ideas with the teachers who, against all odds persevere in an otherwise austere environment.

If attitudes need to change then those nations that have positioned themselves as the 'morally responsible' nations of this planet need to step up and put into action all they preach.

The men and women going up against armed war lords need to know that the leaders of these countries are doing everything to support the deadly work going on in the jungles, savannahs and deserts of Africa.
If not, then every death on this African soil leaves a nasty stain on the hands of those leaders either too apathetic to do anything, or on those who are so implicated in the chaos and destruction of African iconic animals.

Surely citizen action needs to raise the bar and demand better of our leaders.

As reported by our friends at Bhejane Trust, some good news on the anti-poaching front today!
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Victoria Falls have arrested Namatani Ndlovu, a former National Parks Ranger and a notorious poacher who is a kingpin in the poaching syndicate operating between Victoria Falls and Dete.

He still has a pending cyanide case with the Victoria Falls Magistrate Court for poisoning 10 elephants in the Zambezi National Park in 2014! He was arrested by a ZRP patrol, who saw a vehicle in the bush in the Victoria Falls area, became suspicious and monitored it.

They saw Ndlovu get out and hide a tusk in the bush, and while he was getting a second tusk out they moved in and arrested him. He is remanded in custody until 31st August for trial. Well done to the alert ZRP officers who made this arrest. - IAPF
