_GREENING CHIRUMANZU: A WALK FOR A GREENER TOMORROW! 🌳🌟_
Chirumanzu, Midlands, Zimbabwe - In a powerful display of community spirit and environmental commitment, the Chirumanzu Green Walkathon was spectacular! On 5- 6 December, local youths, volunteers, learners, government officials, and partners came together to plant 1,402 trees, breathing new life into the landscape.
_UNITY IN ACTION_
Upon arrival at Moffat Primary School, the goal and objectives of the walkathon were explained to the team and the expected outcome defined by Mr Matongo, the EO for Agriculture and Natural Resources from Chirumanzu RDC. The District Forestry Conservation and Extension Officer Miss R.B. Nyungu went on to raise awareness and elaborated on the theme: Trees and Forests for Ecosystem Restoration and Improved Livelihoods and unveiled the tree of the year Kigelia Africana, Mumvee, Umvebe with the help of Cde Kwiri.
Day 1 - Sixty-six passionate walkers led by Youth Officer "Commander" Muzivi and our Environment Ambassador and "Captain" Miss E. Chitate, kicked off from Moffat Business Centre to Mvuma. They joined in the district clean up at Chicken Slice Mvuma. They then proceeded to Fairfields Primary School, where they witnessed the 451 trees planted by the learners, staff, and parents of Fairfields Primary School. They planted 350 trees at Mtao Forest as a kind gesture of cooperation and public relations.
On day 2, the number of walkers had increased to seventy-five determined participants. They started off the day by planting at Chicken Slice Mvuma led by Assistant DDC Mudzingwa and were then dropped off at Fairfields Business Centre to continue the green walk for trees to Chaka Business Centre.
They raised awareness along the way through advocacy and song. Upon arrival at Chaka, they proceeded walking to Gonawapotera High School, where 46 trees were planted. Local councillors from around the district and community leaders joined the tree planting at the school led by the DSI Mr Dhemba.
The event culminated at Chakastead Community Woodlot by the windmill, where the main event was held. At Chakastead, the Director of the ceremony Mr L. Mazvi led the participants through the tree planting activity and kept the audience intrigued. 🌳
_LEADERSHIP AND LOCAL COMMITMENT_
Honourable Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industries Hon. B. Rwodzi graced the occasion and led the tree planting at Chakastead. Also present were the local Members of Parliament Hon. J. Chokururama and Hon. V. Nhari who came to support her and also participated in the tree-planting activity. The ceremony emphasized the importance of environmental conservation. 🌟
_A GREENER FUTURE FOR CHIRUMANZU_
The Chirumanzu Green Walkathon was more than just an event - it was a movement. With over 550 attendees, this initiative has sparked a wave of environmental awareness and action in the district. Let's keep Chirumanzu green! 🌿
