Scores of Catholics in Lilongwe have expressed disappointment with Luntha Television, a Catholic media institution, for advancing a treason agenda.

Luntha TV, headed by a Catholic priest from Uganda, Fr. David Niwagaba, has embarked on an agenda to fight the government..

Meanwhile, a group of Catholics in Lilongwe, has written a petition to submit to the Malawi Conference of Bishops to summon Fr . Niwagaba for bringing TV Luntha into disrepute.

The TV covered a press conference held by activist Silvester Namiwa who used the opportunity to advance the treason agenda from one of the vice presidents.

PROFESSOR MUTHARIKA DELIVERS, OVER 11,000 RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS FINALLY RECEIVE THEIR GRATUITIES

By: Staff reporter. Lilongwe

During the 2025 General Elections campaign, His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika made several promises to Malawians on how his administration would reform and improve government operations. One of his key commitments was to clear the long-standing backlog of gratuities owed to retired civil servants, many of whom had waited for more than five years without receiving their hard-earned benefits.

Under the previous MCP administration led by President Lazarus Chakwera, thousands of retired civil servants continued to struggle despite their advanced age. On several occasions, pensioners held vigils at Capital Hill, appealing to the government to release their gratuities, but their concerns remained unresolved.

Today, more than 11,000 retired civil servants have finally received their gratuities out of the targeted 15,000 beneficiaries, representing over 73% of the total number expected to benefit from the initiative.

Earlier this year, the Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika administration, through the Minister of Finance, launched an initiative under the 2026/2027 National Budget to settle the long-overdue gratuity payments for retired public servants, demonstrating the government's commitment to honouring those who dedicated their lives to serving the nation.

Reacting to the development, the leadership of the Association of Retired Civil Servants in Malawi expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for fulfilling his campaign promise and ensuring that thousands of retired civil servants have finally received the benefits they worked for throughout their years of public service.

The association described the development as a restoration of dignity and hope for retired public servants and wished Mkulukutamoyo, His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, good health, wisdom, strength, and a long life as he continues to lead efforts aimed at stabilizing government systems and improving the welfare of Malawians.
