Round 2 of the APS Big Bash Breaktime competition was completed today with the Big Bats defending their total of 4/48 against a very competitive Boomerang Bowlers outfit who made 5/32 from their 5 overs. The Roaches are sitting atop the table with the maximum 8 points from their first two clashes, with the Wicket Crickets just behind on 7.5 points. Aadi was the top scorer this week with 28 runs and Ava B bowled the first wicket maiden of the comp, locking down with 1/0 from her 6 deliveries! Special mention to Marley from Year 1 who took 2/4 for the Big Bats in today's game. Next week's fixtures have been released and there is a special preview of Danny's new podcast 'Everbody's Oinkin' about Cricket' included in this week's Alberton Wrap pod which will be published tomorrow - definitely worth a listen!

APS BBL Round 2, Game 2 concluded today at first break with the 'Roaches cruising to 2/53 and defeating the Capybara Crushers who set them the modest total of 5/25 yesterday afternoon. Marko finished with a competition leading 24 runs, ensuring the 4 points were in the bag for his team.
The large crowd gathered in the gym then saw the Wicket Strikers, sent in to bat by Cooper's Wicket Crickets, rack up a very competitive total of 2/45 - Declan and Solly starred with the bat, scoring 16 runs each and Dec notching up the second 6 of the series as part of his total. The Crickets all bowled well to try and contain the Strikers with Cooper and Logan chiming in with well-deserved wickets. Game 3 resumes at 2nd break, with the Crickets sitting on 2/18 from 3 overs and 12 deliveries to chase down the remaining 27 runs and secure what would be a sensational win!

Round 2 of the APS Big Bash kicked off today with a gripping clash between the Wicket Eliminators and the Alberton Sixers. The 'Eliminators batted first with Callaway scoring a rapid 13. Herbie and Henry added 9 runs each in their total of 1/40 from their 5 overs, with the sole wicket been taken by Lachie. Following a cautious start, Leo led his team's run chase with 11 runs, joined by Lachie on 11, who also hit the first six of the competition! The last over was frenetic with Callaway bowling and the Sixers needing 3 from the last two deliveries to secure a sensational win. Sending down a dot with the penultimate delivery, Cal then only conceded a bye from his last ball which saw the gallant Sixers go down by a single run, finishing on 3/39.
Game 2 saw the Cockroach Cricketers take on the Capybara Crushers. Marko won the toss and the 'Roaches elected to bowl first, restricting the Crushers to 5/25 from their allotted overs. Dominating with the ball were Noah (2/5), Patrick S (1/3) and Ewan (0/7) while Zac (6 runs), Michael (5) and Arthur W (4) all worked hard to keep the score ticking over. With 2 overs to still be bowled tomorrow, the 'Roaches are sitting on 2/32 with Noah (0 not out) and Ewan (6 not out) looking to boost the run rate and ensure the maximum 4 points!

Another big week of APS Big Bash Cricket - new podcast out soon!

Here is the Round One Review of the APS Big Bash Competition. Each match gives the teams competing a chance to win 4 'premiership' points - 2 points for a win, 1 point for a superior batting strike rate and 1 point for a superior bowling strike rate from their 5 overs at the crease or fielding. Half points can be awarded if teams tie their bowling strike rate, giving each team the opportunity to pick up points, even if they do not win the match outright. Special mention to Ava B who took the first hat trick of the competition for the Boomerang Bowlers, and Zac U who starred with 5 wickets in his Capybara Crushers debut, helping them to a bowling strike rate point which may come in handy later in the season!

Environmentally-friendly and sustainable Surface Spray cleaner, hand made by our amazing Citizen Scientists Jack G, Linus, Tilo, Solly, Moosa and Cohen - yours for a $2 donation to cover costs, and you can bring your spray bottles back in for a $1 refill!
We also have a limited run of Gardener's Soap (donate what you can), hand-crafted by our Cracticus Coffee student barista team. Using a simple soap base, Hugo, Dahlia, Beza, Arianna, Laina and Frankie have added vanilla essence and coffee grounds to craft a soap that is not only more sustainable but does a great job of cleaning your hands after a session working in the garden or outdoors!

Round 1 of the APS BIG BASH Cricket comp concluded today with the Alberton Strikers reaching 7/33 from their 5 overs in reply to the Capybara Crushers who set them the target of 2/22 on Tuesday. New 'recruit' Lachie from Teal Magpie starred with the bat for the Sixers, smashing 15 runs and supported by contributions from Leo (4) and Isaac VW (5). Zac U was at his lethal best with the ball, taking 4 wickets, and helping the Crushers to a bowling strike rate of 4.2 deliveries per wicket - WOW!
Excitement is already building around next week's games, with lots of spectators making their way to the gym and enjoying the games being played.
