Itโ€™s been a busy week for the Bowning Brigade ๐Ÿš’

โ€ข Monday (5:30am): Crews responded to a 2-vehicle MVA involving a ute and a truck at the intersection of the Hume Hwy and Lachlan Valley Way.
โ€ข Tuesday: Members assisted with a cultural burn on the edge of Bowning township.
โ€ข Tuesday night (around 9pm): Crews were paged to a vehicle fire on the Hume Hwy near Manton after two trucks collided. The impact caused one truck and trailer to catch alight, along with trailers from the second vehicle. Our BA crew worked to extinguish the fire in one of the trailer sets, and then worked on the mop up of the other vehicle in conjunction with BA crews from the Wallaroo Brigade.
โ€ข Today: Crews attended a grass fire in Bowning, possibly a re-ignition from Tuesdayโ€™s burnโ€”an important reminder that fires can still pose a risk even after the bushfire danger period has ended.

Bowning worked along multiple other crews at all of these incidents.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Bush Fire Danger Period Concludes โ€“ Key Information for Landholders

As of midnight today, 31 March, the Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) will conclude across the six Districts within the South Eastern Area Command.

While a fire permit may no longer be required, there are still important legal responsibilities in place for anyone planning to burn.

If you intend to conduct a burn, you must:

โœ” Notify NSW RFS at least 24 hours prior You can submit your notification online here: ๐ŸŒ www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
โœ” Notify your immediate neighbours at least 24 hours prior

This is critical to help prevent unnecessary Triple Zero (000) calls and avoid emergency brigade responses to planned burns.

๐Ÿ“ Notifications can be lodged for periods of up to 21 days.

โš ๏ธ Important: If you live within a Fire and Rescue NSW Fire District, a fire permit is required year-round. Permits can be applied for via the Fire and Rescue NSW website.

Before lighting up, ensure you:

โ€ข Check weather conditions
โ€ข Have appropriate resources on hand
โ€ข Monitor the fire at all times
โ€ข Remain in attendance until the fire is fully extinguished

For more information on BFDP and safe burning practices, visit: ๐ŸŒ www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Your actions help keep our community safe and support our volunteers.

TOTAL FIRE BAN TOMORROW (06/02/2026) EXTREME FIRE DANGER RATING

๐ŸŸ ๐ŸŸ  TOTAL FIRE BAN TOMORROW (06/02/2026) EXTREME FIRE DANGER RATING ๐ŸŸ ๐ŸŸ

Tomorrow, a Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Southern Ranges Weather District (Upper Lachlan, Goulburn Mulwaree, Yass Valley, and Queanbeyan-Palerang LGA's)

What does this mean for you?
Extreme Fire Danger days mean conditions will be dangerous, fires will spread quickly and be extremely difficult to control, and lives and homes are at risk.

๐ŸšซA Total Fire Ban means no fires are permitted in the open. If you're camping in the area, do not light a campfire.
๐Ÿš’Report all fires to Triple Zero (000).
๐Ÿ“–Check your bushfire plan and ensure that your property is fire-ready tonight, don't leave it till the fire starts.
โš ๏ธIf a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
๐ŸšœReconsider doing hot works like welding, grinding, or slashing, as one spark is all it takes to start a fire.
๐Ÿš—Reconsider traveling through bushfire risk areas.
๐Ÿ’จDonโ€™t wait to see smoke โ€” leave early if your plan is to go.

Approximately 10:30am today, Bowning RFS was paged to a vehicle collision on the Hume Highway, Bowning.

On arrival, crews found that a Toyota SUV had collided with the rear of a truck traveling in the same direction, with northbound Lane 1 impacted during the response. The driver of the Toyota was assessed and transported to Yass Hospital with minor injuries.

The highway is now clear and traffic has returned to normal.

Bowning was supported by Yass Valley RFS and Yass Fire & Rescue.

Please drive safely and stay alert on our highways. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš’

Incident Call - Structure Fire โ€“ Yass Township ๐Ÿš’

Yesterday evening, Bowning Brigade was called to a structure fire in the Yass township. On arrival, crews found a shed fully involved in fire.

Using Breathing Apparatus, two of our firefighters were on air working alongside members of Yass F&R 511 and the Yass Valley Brigade. The Murrumbateman Captain was also called in to manage a hazardous hollow tree that was well alight through the centre, making the area unsafe to operate around.

A huge shout-out to all crews involved for their hard work, teamwork, and commitment in bringing this incident under control.

Itโ€™s been a very busy few days for members of the Bowning RFS.

On Friday, our brigade formed part of a strike team deployed to fires burning in Victoria, where some areas experienced catastrophic fire conditions. Our members returned late Saturday evening.

Yesterday, our brigade station was stood-up for the day, hosting crews and their trucks from Yass River, Yass and Manton as part of a pre-emptive strike team, ready to respond to local and area incidents due to extreme fire conditions.

Late in the afternoon, this strike team responded to a large grass fire at Narrawa in the Southern Tablelands. The fire burnt approximately 233 hectares, with Bowning and other brigades from the strike team returning to station around 5am this morning.

A big thank you to all crews involved for their hard work, teamwork, and commitment during challenging conditions.
