The new stud ewes purchased at the Doonkami Australian Whites sale last week seem happy to be finally back in a paddock after 3 days of travelling and being in yards. Scott drove about 10 hours from Doonkami down to Yass and we drove 3 and a half hours from Candelo to meet up and transfer the ewes. Amazingly after all that travel we arrived just 5 minutes apart. Ewes have now made it safely to Bega Valley, they had a drench and emptied out overnight before making it to a paddock this morning. Thanks again to Scott Baker from Doonkami for delivering them down south for us, it was much appreciated.

The Doonkami Australian Whites annual sale was held today with a lineup of beautiful stud ewes that were hard to go past. We purchased what we think are four of the best, 3 of them being daughters of the $240,000 Platinum Tattykeel 210184. Looking forward to their arrival at Bega Valley Australian Whites and many thanks to Scott and his team at Doonkami Australian Whites.

A bit surprised and very pleased with our commercial ewes this year, I was thinking a few weeks back that lambing % seemed a bit down. Well the results are in. All our commercial ewes lambed in just 30 days, lambs were marked, tagged and vaxxed over the weekend and we marked 152%. These ewes were not scanned but known losses were about 11%. This is a pretty good for us and we are chuffed with the result. Would be interested to hear what other breeders think.

Very dry conditions continue at Candelo and we're hand feeding everyday but lambing goes on. It's not easy on the ewes feeding lambs when there's not much grass available but the ewes are so far holding up pretty well. It's still nice to see lambs playing.

And just like that we are off with lambing 2026. Commercial ewes right on cue on day 148 produced triplets, 2 sets of twins and 2 singles. Commercial lamb sire this year is our reliable Doonkami Australian Whites 210214. Stud ewes yet to pop.

Cold and cloudy today in Candelo but it is mid winter. We will be lambing at Bega Valley Australian Whites by the middle of next week so we had the ewes come through the yards today for a drench, check ear tags and sort into lambing groups. Hopefully have lamb pics next week.

With Australian White sheep you get early fertility, no crutching or shearing costs and no fly strike. That's exactly why another farming family have selected this group of young 10 month old ewe lambs and a AWSBA blue tag flock ram for delivery today. We have no more commercial ewes available until December/January.
