At 16:12 this afternoon Cudal was paged to a grass fire originally thought to be on Bowen park road. After some investigation the fire was instead located on a property on es**rt way. Cudal 1 responded along with Bowen park cheesmans creek nd 2 unit from borenore brigade. This was a small grass fire caused from a lighting strike in last weeks storm. A large tree was identified as the origin point and a chainsaw crew was used to bring down the tree to allow ground crews to fully blackout the fire and hand back to the property owner. This is a timely reminder that lightning strike can smoulder away quietly for days. With coming hot weather this weekend please remain vigilant and report all fires to 000

What a day. Cudal 7 spent the day at the McLachlan road fire. Today’s focus was consolidating containment and extinguishing hot spot. We spent a lot of time with our neighbours Manildra Rural Fire Brigade working together along side red hill and mandagery to identify hot spots and extinguish. The crews also worked along side fire bird 248(a light helicopter with a 1000litre bucket) to get some really difficult to reach areas. These operations were coordinated excellent by canobolas group 6 and red hill 1. Heavy plant was also working along side crew assisting with some trouble trees. This was an outstanding effort from all crews involved over the 2 days in really difficult terrain. Huge shoutout to the team at NSW Rural Fire Service Canobolas Zone for there continued support and coordination of assets with fire such as these. The fire is now currently set at patrol with a crew from red hill going to assess tomorrow after a good bit of rain this afternoon.

After the first call of the day at 2 am this morning cudal 1 was called to grass fire this afternoon at 13:24 on Henry parkes way. While responding to this call we sighted another fire close by and was divert to deal with that fire on Coates creek road. This fire was quickly put out with the assistance of the landholder. Cudal 1 was then re tasked to a fire on Peabody road this being the largest of the 3 where we worked together with crews from molong cheesemans creek borenore north west and canobolas zone bulk water. The patchy rain with the recent storm activity has made for quite a busy afternoon across the whole zone.

Both trucks responded along with manildra and cheesman creek to get the fire under control and out quickly before getting into the cudal common. Unfortunately the rain has missed us this morning but fingers crossed we get some later in the day.

With the cool change today tomorrow will see similar temperatures with a high fire danger forecast for tomorrow. It has been a busy week for fire fighters across the state. Temperatures are set to rise again mid week followed by another cool change by the weekend hopefully bringing some much needed rain. As always though these forecasts can change and everyone needs to remain alert and stay up to date with any changes.
