Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW. However, due to the ongoing fire risk, the BFDP will be extended in four Local Government Areas, including Gwydir, Mid-Western, Moree Plains and Narrabri.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

Fire activity is increasing at the Wybong Road Bushfire.

The fire is moving in a Westerly direction towards Sandy Hollow, resulting in an increase of significant smoke being blown towards the township.

Residents of Sandy Hollow and surrounds should continue to monitor conditions and review their bushfire survival plans.

Firefighters along with aircraft are continuing to work very hard to contain this fire and minimise any further spread.

Firefighters, assisted by aircraft and heavy plant are continuing to work to control a bushfire burning on Wybong Rd, Hollydeen.

Backburning operations have been occurring this afternoon and likely to continue into the night to limit the fire spread into inaccessible terrain. This will cause an increase in smoke being produced but there is no need for alarm.

Residents are urged to monitor the situation and remained informed. Now is a better time than ever to review your Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Please avoid the area to allow firefighters to safely operate to control this fire. Wybong Road may be closed for the safety of road users and firefighters.

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Sunday 21 December 2025, for the Greater Hunter, Central Ranges, North Western, Upper Central West Plains and Lower Central West Plains areas, with forecasts of high and extreme fire danger and warm and windy weather.

It's important you know your fire risk and what you'll do if fire threatens. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

Well, wasn't that a soaking ball of fun this afternoon!!!

Thankyou to the Denman community for coming down and supporting our changed "Santa Run".

Due to the high heat the last couple days, and today and tomorrow was forecast to hit 40's again, our mates at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 283 Denman and Mangoola Rural Fire Brigade NSW thought it would be fitting to change the annual Santa Run and make it a fun afternoon and have a water party...
Kids got to see Santa and get their bags of lollies, and then it was on, water pistols were out, hoses were out, and water was going everywhere.... What fun it was, and a great way to cool down..

Pretty sure Amon can turn his boots into mini pools with the amount of water in them... hahaha.

Thankyou all for coming down, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did....

CHANGE OF PLANS to Santa Run Denman

Due to this heat and forecast 40's again tomorrow and Sunday, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 283 Denman and Mangoola Rural Fire Brigade NSW have decided we will rather have a bit of a water play at Memorial Park Denman for the kids and anyone wanting to cool down.

Santa would not handle this heat driving around on the Garford.

From around 4pm onwards at Memorial Park Denman (across from RSL) for an hour or two.

🚨 Update – Milsons Gully Fire

NSW Rural Fire Service strike teams will be setting up temporary accommodation at the Denman Recreation Area as they continue work on the Milsons Gully fire.

They’ll be using the old Denman football ground and amenities at the newer fields, so residents will notice increased activity and vehicle movements as the site is prepared for around 100 volunteers and as crews arrive from tomorrow morning.

Please take extra care in the area and give our RFS teams plenty of space as they get on with the important work of keeping our community safe.
