After using the Steyr for bayonet training, I always thought how great the SLR was for this type of fighting when I learnt with it. But I must admit when the old .303 was brought out by the instructor at Tully Land Warfare Centre, sometimes age has it's advantages.

Up coming Dates of interest for the Veterans and their families.
1. Veteran Social Free Breakfast Sunday 8am
Held at the Greenbank RSL Sub Branch Inc. This is a for any defence and family members.that are serving or has served.
2. Middle East and Peacekeepering Day 12th September 2026, this is being hosted by the Greenbank RSL Sub-Branch for all Veterans who have not received the full recognition they deserve. The Ceremony commences at 11am in the Greenbank Rsl Sub-Branch Memorial Gardens.
3. Veteran Social Caravan Group Dates 2-5 October 2026 at the Kenilworth Showgrounds if any members is attending the Caravan Trip please PM and we can swap details.

Sunday 30th of August at 0800 hours our group will be holding the Veteran Social SE Queensland free breakfast catch-up.
The event is held at the Greenbank RSL Sub Branch Inc Hillcrest Qld.This is due to coffee shops not allowing us to sit and talk for longer periods.

Those people following we would love feed back on moving forward with whether we should attempt a BBQ.

The next caravan getaway is also getting close this destination is Kenilworth Showgrounds for anyone interested please message me for details.

A veteran forwarded me this song, for anyone who has been apart from family or served overseas, it may not be your type of music but change son to daughter and I beleive that's the mark.
If you don't have the strong relationship due to the way you had to work through your own traumas it does make you think of the way it should have been or it is for you today.
Be kind to yourself and most of all your family.

VIETNAM VETERANS DAY 18 August 2026

If you are a Vietnam Veteran or even somebody who has served come along to the Commemorative Day at 11am the Location is the Greenbank RSL Sub-Branch Memorial Gardens at 54 Anzac Avenue Hillcrest. This day is about showing your support to our returned Service Personel.

This discussion point has been raised numerous times and is not about should I go to an RSL Advocate or should I go to a paid Advocate or even a Solicitor.
This is abount Advocates and I have heard it from all sides, I CAN This statement is not correct. An Advocate can not get you a Gold Card unless you are 70 years of age and seen Active Service.
An Advocate can not tell they will get you $100k's in dollars.
Whether paid or not an Advocate links an injury to your service generally through an SOP and fills in the the appropriate paperwork.
The Doctor or Specialist determine the degree of incapacity not the Advocate so how can they quantify the statement of I GOT.
No matter which way you choose to submit your claim if you feel happy with the Advocate whether Volunteer or Company or paid.
Dollar signs should not be used, sometimes a permanent pension may be a better decision for that veteran. But that does not come at an impairment dollar sign that was there when most claims were under VEA.

This is not a debate on who to see, see that is an individual choice but I believe for veterans to make a decision they should know the very basics but when they see large dollar signs it opens their eyes and it can be misleading. As long the condition is Accepted by DVA you have achieved the goal.
