🔥 Rocky Hall / Big Jack Fire – CONTAINED

The Rocky Hall / Big Jack fire has now been contained to 24 hectares.

A huge effort from firefighters from the NSW RFS and NPWS over recent days, working in challenging conditions and difficult terrain, with support from heavy dozers and aircraft.

We were also lucky enough to see some welcome rain this afternoon.

A big thank you to the local community for your patience and support while crews have been working in the area.

While the fire is contained, crews will continue to monitor and patrol the area. Please continue to stay up to date and remain aware of changing conditions.

🚨 PLEASE CHECK YOUR PILES — URGENT REQUEST 🚨

If you’ve recently done a pile burn or any other burning over the past month, we’re asking you to please check it today. We are seeing burns escape daily!

🌬️ Winds are around and are expected to strengthen heading into the weekend.

Even if you believe your burn is out, hot spots can remain buried for weeks and can quickly flare up when exposed to stronger winds.

The landscape is dry, and conditions can change quickly.

👉 Please check your piles and thoroughly extinguish any remaining heat or smoke.

Don’t assume it’s out, make sure it’s out.

A few minutes checking today could prevent a fire from escaping tomorrow.

Please share this with your neighbours, family and friends.

Really important notice folks

Bush Fire Danger Period commencing 1 September. 📅

The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) will commence in the Far South Coast on Tuesday 1 September. From this date, anyone planning to conduct a pile burn or other permitted burn will need to ensure they have the appropriate Fire Permit before lighting.
A permit is only one part of the process. If you're planning a burn, remember:
✅ CHECK - Make sure your proposed burn meets the requirements for a safe and lawful burn. Check your pile, surrounding vegetation, available equipment, and other requirements before applying.
📝 PERMIT - During the Bush Fire Danger Period, obtain the required Fire Permit online here https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp before lighting your burn
📢 NOTIFY - Once you've identified suitable conditions and intend to proceed, you must provide at least 24 hours' notice before lighting:
Notify the NSW RFS online at https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp
Notify all adjoining neighbours of your intention to burn.
🔥 BURN SAFELY - Continue to monitor weather and fire conditions right up until you light.
Having a permit does not mean you should proceed if conditions are no longer suitable. These requirements help ensure proposed burns can be appropriately assessed, planned burns are recorded before ignition, neighbours know that smoke or fire may be visible.
There is plenty of information available on the NSW RFS website about Fire Permits, notification requirements, pile burn standards and preparing for a safe burn. Visit rfs.nsw.gov.au for more information.
A little planning before you light goes a long way towards keeping our Far South Coast communities safe.

If you own a rural lifestyle property it's important your property is
well prepared for a bush fire. You may not be at home when the fire
starts. Taking some simple steps to prepare your property and
animals can make all the difference.

This week the Brigade practiced refilling a near empty truck quickly on a simulated fire ground, at night and with a few safety hazards thrown in. It was good to exercise skills ahead of the fire season.

If you are interestedly in joining the Brigade or you know someone who might be please get in touch with us - we are looking for volunteers to help your community.

Have a great weekend

The risk of bush fires is returning. After several years of wet
weather, grass and scrub has regrown leading to an increased risk of bushfire in your local area.
Ask your local RFS members about your risk and what you can do to prepare at your Get Ready Weekend event

🍃Increased Wind Forecast for the Far South Coast🍃

Forecast winds across the Far South Coast are set to increase in the coming days.
This poses risks of escaped pile burns that have been conducted over the last few weeks.

🔭We request that resident check pile burns that have been conducted as we see an increase in wind these can become active.

🤔You should consider the forecast before you light up. It is you're responsibility to use fire safely. Please have a read of Before You Light That Firehttps://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0013/12451/Before-You-Light-That-Fire-AW-Digi.pdf

💸Fine can apply if you fail to notify the RFS or fire leaves your property.
