Northern Motorcycle Riders Association of Tasmania (inc)

Northern Motorcycle Riders Association of Tasmania (inc) Club History The Tasmanian MRA was formed in 1980. In 2007, the MRA was restructured into three autonomous groups (Northwest, North and South).

Its original purpose was to confront the Tasmanian Government and the Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) over rapidly increasing insurance premiums. This three year battle was won in 1983 when the government agreed to peg motorcycle premiums to the same level as cars. The MRA was responsible during this time for lobbying for and helping to set up the Tasmanian Motorcycle Rider Training Scheme,

which operated from 1981 until 1998, when the government withdrew funding and handed the scheme over to a private provider to operate. Since 1980 the MRA has organised and run the annual Toy Run, which raises huge amounts of toys, gifts and money for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Commencing in 1981 the MRA has organised and run the annual TasRally, which is the biggest and best biker party held in Tasmania. Introduced in 1984, the MRA conducts the annual Motorcycle Awareness Ride through Launceston to highlight the need for the public to be more aware of the many motorcycle riders on our roads. These three groups work autonomously, coming together to host the larger events such as Tas Rally. Northern Motorcycle Riders Association representatives continue to lobby for changes to legislation affecting motorcyclists in this state. We welcome your input and membership to assist us to continue this representation for better and more equitable outcomes for all.

Another overnighter done! What a magic weekend with a fabulous crew of people. We headed to Bruny Island, staying at the Adventure Bay Caravan & Cabin park, where we walked to the Bruny Island Bowls Club for barefoot bowls and a beautiful meal. Chris and the team at the bowls club do such an amazing job, they were fantastic to deal with and couldn't do enough to accommodate us, including putting on egg and bacon rolls, Sausages and tea and coffee this morning.
We had beautiful weather until we got to Campbell Town, when the rain started.

The Ambassadors were on the ride and happily bought the baton to more places in Southern Tas. Go girls! We are proud to be supporting this year long event and even prouder that our Ambassadors are leading the world in baton passes.

Calling all women riders in Tasmania!! Two of our dedicated members are on their way back to Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania tonight, with the Baton for the Women Riders World Relay. They have ridden to Orange NSW for the official launch of the 2026 World Relay.

Julie Penney and Rayleen Glover will be at the Devonport Home Maker Centre at approximately 9am tomorrow. If anyone would like to take part in the first Baton passes, feel free to pop down. If you are keen to help light up Tasmania, reach out to these ladies or via our page and we can help you connect and take part in this world wide event.

We want to see Tasmania light up like a beacon. To show how many incredible female riders we have across our wonderful state.
