⚠️ In an emergency, every second counts. For rural properties, a clear and visible number can make all the difference — especially after dark.
🚒🚑🚓 When firefighters, paramedics, or police are trying to find your property at night, poor visibility, long driveways, and unlit roads can slow them down. A bright, reflective number at your gate or driveway entrance helps crews locate you quickly when it matters most.
🔭 If your number is hard to spot:
- Emergency vehicles may drive past your property
- Response times can increase
- Night‑time conditions make it even harder to identify landmarks
A simple fix — large, reflective numbers placed at the roadside — helps keep you, your family, and your community safer.

We understand that landowners and custodians are trying to get their clean up done before we enter the bush fire danger period which necessitates gaining BOTH a burn NOTIFICATION as well as a fire PERMIT, however, PLEASE do not progress your preparations without ensuring you have a current burn notification for NOW.
Also, please remember to notify ALL your neighbours either by

📬 a personal note in the letter box,
📱📞 a friendly call, or maybe even
🤝🏽🗣️ drop by and have a yarn.

As we move through the cooler months, many of our districts across the South Eastern Area Command are experiencing an increase in reports of private property burns that have not been notified and/or managed safely.

While burning vegetation can be an effective way to manage your property, it is important that landholders understand and meet their responsibilities before lighting a fire.

Before you light a burn pile, please remember to:
✅ Check whether you require a Fire Permit for your area. (If you are in Fire and Rescue District you require a permit from them all year round)
✅ Notify your local NSW RFS Fire Control Centre with minimum 24hours notice, you can do this online at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
✅ Notify your neighbours before lighting your burn also with minimum 24 hours notice.
✅ Check weather conditions and continue to monitor.
✅ Keep the fire a manageable size and have water and equipment available.
✅ Never leave a fire unattended.
✅ Ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area, as embers can remain hot for many hours and reignite under changing conditions.

Taking a few extra steps before and after burning helps protect your property, your neighbours, our firefighters and the wider community.
