The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to PREPARE NOW for snow, fog, ice, and frost:

- Hanging Rock and surrounding areas.

Due to overnight weather conditions, we have seen snow fall across some parts of the zone, impacting roads around Hanging Rock.

The SES is asking residents to please take care when driving in the area today and over the next few days.

What are we expecting?

The NSW SES advises these weather conditions may cause:

- Slippery and hazardous conditions on the roads.
- Decreased visibility.
- Extremely cold temperatures
- Trees to fall over

Tamworth and surrounds flooding

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to STAY INFORMED about predicted minor flooding on the Peel River:

- Low lying areas of Tamworth and surrounds

You should stay informed by monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

Due to overnight rainfall in the catchment and the prediction for more rain tonight there is a possibility that the Peel River at Tamworth may reach the minor flood level over the next 12 (twelve) hours.

The possibility of minor flooding is based off the forecast of another 20-50mm rain across parts of the catchment that flow into the Peel River.

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to STAY INFORMED about predicted minor flooding on the Peel and Namoi Rivers:

- Low lying areas along the Peel and Namoi Rivers from Nundle through to Narrabri

You should stay informed by monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises low pressure system in western Queensland extends a trough towards the northern interior of NSW. This system is forecast to track southeast across eastern NSW between Friday and Sunday.

Coastal catchments in the Flood Watch area are wet. Inland catchments are relatively dry.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area for the remainder of Friday through to Saturday, with locally heavy rainfall possible. There is some degree of uncertainty over the exact location and timing of the heaviest falls. Localised river level rises, and flash flooding are likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall.

This weather system has the potential to cause minor flooding in the Flood Watch area from late Friday into the weekend. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

- Low lying areas along the Peel and Namoi Rivers

Update: yesterday's storms have so far created over 1,800 requests for assistance statewide.

While they have brought much needed rain, the storms and wind have created a fair bit damage too. Our area has received over 200 calls for assistance with the majority being in Tamworth and Narrabri. Local crews have been working through the night and additional crews from surrounding areas have been deployed this morning to support the recovery operation.

We are still taking calls to assist with property damage from these storms on 132 500. If you do not get through immediately, please keep trying.

Severe thunderstorms have impacted across NSW including the local area this evening with large hailstones resulting in significant damage to numerous properties.

More than 1000 jobs received so far this afternoon & evening and we appreciate your patience as we make contact with residents as quickly as possible.

FLOOD WATCH FOR THE PEEL AND NAMOI RIVERS

A low pressure system and associated trough will move into northwest New South Wales today, tracking southeast to be over the southern Tasman Sea by Saturday.

This weather system is forecast to bring widespread rain to the state, with some areas receiving moderate to heavy falls. It has the potential to cause riverine flooding as well as local flash flooding in the following river valleys from Friday onwards:

1. Upper MacIntyre - minor to moderate flooding

2. Gwydir - moderate flooding

3. Peel - minor flooding

4. Namoi - minor to moderate flooding

5. Castlereagh - minor to moderate flooding

6. Bogan - minor to moderate flooding

7. Macquarie - minor to moderate flooding

8. Lachlan (including Mandagery Creek and Belubula) - moderate to major flooding

9. Murrumbidgee - moderate flooding

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop. Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. Across NSW, about 70% of Flood Watches are followed by flooding.

UPDATE ON THE FLOOD WATCH FOR THE PEEL AND NAMOI RIVER VALLEYS.

An updated Flood Watch remains in place for possible minor flooding in the Peel and Namoi River valleys. The BOM is still predicting further rainfall for the remainder of the day and evening.

If further heavy rainfall occurs, local roads and causeways may close and driving conditions could become dangerous. Creeks and streams could break their banks placing campers at risk. Livestock and equipment in low-lying paddocks may also be at risk.

If flooding develops:
• Move your livestock, pumps and farm equipment to higher ground
• Avoid driving or walking through flood water: it may be deeper and faster flowing than you realise
• Stay away from storm drains, creeks and rivers
• Keep in contact with your neighbours

This flood watch will expire by 2pm Monday 20/06/2016

If you need emergency assistance as a result of any flooding which develops, contact your local State Emergency Service Unit by calling 132 500. The SES is monitoring the situation. If Flooding develops warnings will be issued so keep listening to your local station for updates.
