πŸš’ Today is St Florian’s Day - also known as International Firefighter’s Day.

❀️ It's a time for us to thank every firefighter - past and present - for their bravery, dedication, and commitment to protecting lives and communities.

❀️ We pause to remember and honour those firefighters who sadly lost their lives protecting others. May they rest in peace.

Our fire crew were proud to assist with a vegetation fire at Cleveland in the Northern Midlands.

The cause has been determined as accidental, with the landowner operating slashing equipment when blades struck a rock, sparking the fire. Thanks to a quick response and strong teamwork on the ground, the fire was brought under control and the area made safe over the last few days.

A timely reminder as conditions dry out: take extra care when using machinery, especially during elevated fire danger periods. One small spark can quickly turn into something much bigger.

πŸ”₯ Summer Safety and Registered Burns β€” Stay Safe, Tasmania! πŸ”₯

As summer approaches and fire danger increases across the state, the Tasmania Fire Service wants to remind everyone that registered burns and fire permits are key to keeping our communities safe. With hotter, drier conditions forecast and fire danger rising, it’s more important than ever to plan carefully and follow safety rules before lighting up.

Let’s work together to make this summer as safe as possible β€” plan ahead, register your burns, and stay informed with the latest fire danger updates. 🌞πŸ”₯πŸ’§

The Fire Permit Period for all of Tasmania will start tomorrow (Tuesday, 16 December 2025) – this means from 2am Fire Permits will be required across the state until the end of the 2025-26 bushfire season πŸ”₯πŸ“ƒ

If you have a property and you wish to conduct a burn (larger than 1 cubic metre in size) on your property, you will need to apply for a free Fire Permit by submitting an application online at fire.tas.gov.au or calling the Tasmania Fire Service on 1800 000 699

πŸ“² During a Fire Permit Period:

πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or for a similar purpose must obtain a permit.

πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit.

πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal of garden waste do not require a permit provided that:
❌ The fire is not lit in peat, humus or marram grass.
❌ The fire is attended by a responsible adult at all times until it is extinguished.
❌ All flammable material is removed for at least three metres radius from the fire.
❌ It is less than one cubic metre in size.

πŸ”₯ Firefighters and partner agencies are continuing to respond to multiple bushfires in southern Tasmania.

⚠️ One Watch and Act warning remains in place for Dolphin Sands and surrounding areas, and five advice warnings are in place for other fires, predominantly in the south of the state.

So far, approximately 700 hectares have been burnt in the Dolphin Sands fire and sadly we can confirm that 19 houses, 15 outbuildings and 4 vehicles have been damaged in the fire.

Weather conditions today have been more favourable, and firefighters, including aerial resources are making good progress on containing the fire.

A community meeting has taken place in Swansea this afternoon in order to keep the members of the public updated.

Everyone should continue to stay informed and follow official updates:

Late afternoon call out to assist our colleagues at Lillydale Fire Brigade, a vegetation fire πŸ”₯.

One of our newer recruits, Lauren, demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance in challenging terrain and low light conditions, effectively utilizing her hose skills in a demanding environment. πŸ’¦

As warmer weather approaches, ensure your bushfire plans are in place and register any burn offs. Preparation is crucial in saving lives. β˜€οΈ

Did you know that in addition to firefighting responsibilities, we also provide support to SES Tas? Some of our members were able to provide support to SES today in response to the high volume of calls generated by the severe weather conditions. We utilized our chainsaw qualifications this morning assisting our friends in orange!

TasALERT provides the latest information about emergency warnings and incidents across Tasmania.
