A Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for early Saturday morning 🍃

📍 Residents in parts of the Illawarra and parts of the South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts should monitor conditions and follow safety advice.

A strong west to northwesterly flow will develop during early Saturday morning ahead of a cold front that will sweep over southern parts of the state during the day. Winds will tend westerly during Saturday evening in the wake of the front.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.

Winds are expected to ease throughout the warning area late Saturday afternoon or early evening.

Stay ahead of the storm:
🔸 Move your car under cover or away from trees and powerlines if safe to do so.

The Bureau of Meteorology - BOM - notes that the storm season is around the corner and in the peak time can and will result in severe thunderstorm outbreaks usually accompanied by hail, damaging winds, lightning and flash flooding.

WHERE ARE YOU……WE’VE BEEN LOOKING EVERYWHERE FOR YOU!!!!!!

We know that you’ve been seeing our ‘orange people’ out in the field helping the community dealing with fallen trees or fixing broken rooves and the myriad others things that we are involved with.

If you come to our unit on Tasman Road, St Georges Basin on any ďżźWednesday night at 6:30 pm, we will be able to explain to you all that is involved in order to join us.

We won’t throw you out to sink or swim, but we will give you loads of information and build up your knowledge base in order for you to become one of our family.

So, don’t be shy, don’t be apprehensive, don’t think that you will not fit in… We will ensure that you are capable of doing any job with the training on offer.

Age doesn’t matter, as there is a niche for everyone.

We look forward to enthuse you, educate you on our methods and welcome you into our very friendly family.

A clean house is a sign of a clear mind....as the saying goes - or did I just make that up !!!!

Regardless, our selfless volunteers gave of their time last Saturday for a complete cleanup of our unit at St Georges Basin.

Spending time away from family and friends in order to make our happy place 'job ready' - a few hours, a lot of hands did make a huge difference and we are so thankful for our volunteers' dedication and selflessness.

Well done to those who raised their hands for this sometimes, thankless job.

Richard is a dedicated NSW SES volunteer with over 32 years of service.

Richard was named alongside other outstanding NSW SES volunteers.

🚨 A new national warning system is being tested TODAY across Australia with NSW residents receiving alerts at 2pm.

Your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.
The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.

The AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

⚠️ If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
