With two weeks remaining until the Asset Benchmarking Project (ABP) survey closes, we encourage councils to finalise and submit their data. The information collected through the survey plays a vital role in supporting advocacy for increased local government funding and investment, having previously contributed to initiatives such as the Fixing Country Roads and Fixing Country Bridges programs.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the IPWEA NSW & ACT Metro South Chapter Meeting, proudly hosted by Waverley Council at the iconic Bondi Pavilion.

The day provided a great opportunity for infrastructure and public works professionals to connect, share knowledge and explore key topics shaping our industry, from innovative pavement solutions and urban greening through to digital technology and asset management.

Yesterday, we welcomed road maintenance professionals from councils, Transport for NSW, industry and the private sector to the Road Maintenance Symposium 2026 in Tamworth. Presented in partnership with IPWEA NSW & ACT, AustStab and AfPA, the symposium delivered a practical and engaging program focused on the challenges and opportunities facing road managers across regional and local government networks.

Throughout the day, attendees explored topics including flood and storm recovery, unsealed road performance, pavement rehabilitation, drainage and moisture management, collaborative contracting, pavement recycling and stabilisation, and practical approaches to improving road network resilience.

A sincere thank you to our speakers, delegates, sponsors and partners for contributing their expertise and helping make the event a success. We would also like to acknowledge Stabilised Pavements of Australia as our Networking Partner and The Stabilising Pty Ltd as our Lunch Partner for their valued support.

Following a productive Board Lunch at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth last week, where the IPWEA NSW & ACT Board met with Senior Members of the NSW Shadow Ministry to discuss the future of public works, infrastructure and local government, we now look ahead to our 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The AGM provides an important opportunity for members to reflect on the achievements of the past year, review the Annual Report and Financial Reports, hear the declaration of the 2026 Board Election, and help shape the future direction of the Institute. The meeting will be held on Thursday 12 November 2026 at 12:00pm at PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney, with members also able to attend online via MS Teams.

The Metro West Chapter Meeting brought together public works and infrastructure professionals from across the region for a valuable day of networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration at PHIVE, proudly hosted by City of Parramatta Council.

The program featured a diverse range of presentations on major infrastructure projects, flood recovery, recreation precinct development, funding initiatives, and the growing role of AI and digital technologies in asset and infrastructure management.

Thank you to all speakers and attendees for contributing to the day’s discussions, and to City of Parramatta Council for hosting the event.

A special thank you to the Metro West Chapter Committee, including Chair Stuart Green, Meeting Coordinator Bill Woodcock and Secretary Brendan McLister, for their ongoing leadership and dedication to the chapter.

With just one month remaining, councils are encouraged to complete their submission for the Asset Benchmarking Project (ABP) before the 13 November 2026 deadline.

The Asset Benchmarking Project provides critical data on road and bridge assets, asset management practices and funding needs across NSW. This information supports evidence-based advocacy to government and has previously helped secure investment through initiatives such as the Fixing Country Roads and Fixing Country Bridges programs.

Thank you to the councils that have already completed their submissions. If your survey is still in progress, now is the time to finalise and sign off your data. Every submission strengthens the benchmark, improves the quality of insights and helps build a stronger case for future infrastructure funding.
