It is with great sadness that the Tailem Info Station acknowledges the passing of Peter Squires OAM, a remarkable community member whose dedication to preserving history helped shape Tailem Bend into the destination we know today.

Peter was the visionary founder of Old Tailem Town Pioneer Village, Australia's largest pioneer village. Through decades of tireless work, he rescued and preserved more than 100 historic buildings and countless artefacts, creating a place where visitors could step back in time and experience the stories, lifestyles and achievements of earlier generations.

For over 40 years, Old Tailem Town has welcomed visitors from across Australia and around the world, becoming one of the Murray River Lakes and Coorong's most iconic tourism attractions and an important part of Tailem Bend's identity. Peter's passion for heritage conservation not only safeguarded South Australia's history but also inspired countless people to appreciate the value of preserving our past.

As custodians of our own local history within Tailem Bend's historic railway building, we recognise and deeply appreciate Peter's enormous contribution to heritage preservation, tourism and community education. His life's work has helped ensure that the stories of those who came before us will continue to be shared with future generations.

We extend our sincere condolences to Peter's family, friends and all those connected to Old Tailem Town. His legacy will live on through the attraction he created and the many lives he touched along the way.

The State Heritage Listed Tailem Bend Railway Station ๐Ÿš‚ is an iconic building that played an important part in the early years of the South Australian Railways ๐Ÿ›ค and the establishment of ๐Ÿ“ Tailem Bend.

Since the opening of the Shell V-Power (The Bend) Motorsport Park ๐Ÿ the region has seen an increase in visitors ๐Ÿš—.

Centrally located in the heart of Tailem Bend the Railway Station ๐Ÿš‚ operates as a โ„น๏ธ Visitor Information Outlet and rail museum currently open Mon-Fri 10am - 3pm.

The Tailem Info Station is looking for weekend volunteers ๐Ÿ™‹ with the aim of being open 7 days a week!

Volunteers assist with a range of tasks and duties that profile Tailem Bend and neighbouring towns ๐Ÿ—บ making the region a more friendly ๐Ÿ‘‹ and desirable destination for our visitors.

Enjoy the benefits of working with like-minded people ๐Ÿ˜, gaining new skills and knowledge ๐Ÿง , while giving back to the community and gaining a sense of belonging!
