We welcome proposals from community organisations, not-for-profits, social enterprises, businesses, and other suitable entities to operate the facility for the benefit of our community.

Barkly Regional Council was proud to receive the Royal Life Saving Australia President's Award for Outstanding Community Service in recognition of our management of the Tennant Creek Swimming Pool and our commitment to keeping the facility open and accessible for the community.

Councillor Sharen Lake accepted the award from His Honour the Honourable David Connolly Administrator of the NT at a formal event at Government House in Darwin.

At a time when several pools in remote communities across the Northern Territory have been forced to close because of financial and operational challenges, this award acknowledges the hard work of our team in keeping the Tennant Creek pool operating, training and employing local people, and ensuring community members continue to have access to this important facility.

Our swimming pool was built nearly 60 years ago, funded by miners who wanted to make a positive contribution to the community.

While there have been some upgrades over the years, the plumbing dates back to the construction days, and is now on the brink of failing.

We have asked the NT Government to help fund the replacement pipework, so far without luck.

However, we will keep knocking on doors because with summer temperatures soaring above 40 degrees, our pool is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Tonight Tennant Creek turned out to a candlelight vigil at Peko Park in honour of those who lost their lives and loved ones in the flash floods in Nepal.

Our Nepalese community contributes significantly to the Barkly through work, social and multicultural engagement and mutual support networks; and we respect and appreciate the positive difference they make to our town and region.

Together, we mourn
the loss of so many lives and stand in solidarity with our Nepalese friends as the search and recovery efforts continue.

Hellooooo young ones ... kickstart tomorrow's Barkly Careers and Youth Forum at the Tennant Creek Youth Centre this afternoon from 4pm.

We're having a barbeque, DJ Shilo will be there and a surprise guest who you'll all love just might drop in to say hello.

Everyone aged between 6-19 is welcome.

Don't forget the Forum starts tomorrow at 9:30am at the Civic Hall. This is a great opportunity to find out more about jobs and career options, so don't miss it.

The Barkly Regional Council is proud to support the Barkly Careers and Youth Forum to be held at the Civic Hall in Tennant Creek on Thursday 3 September.

This is a great opportunity for our young people to explore career options and establish networks. We will be there with information on jobs and careers with the Barkly Regional Council, so visit our stand and see how we can help.

The forum runs from 9:30am – 2:00pm, and there’s a community barbeque from 11:00am which includes a feature performance by the Territory’s own rising rapper, Yung Milla.
