West Daly Regional Council had a fantastic time at Wadeye Futures Day, hosted by Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic College 👏

From exploring the grader to discovering how our Civil team helps keep communities connected, there was plenty to explore.
Our activity stall, filled with books and colouring sheets, was also fun for the young visitors!

Tim's recognition highlights the qualities that make public service so valuable - compassion, resilience and a genuine commitment to helping others. It also speaks to the dedication demonstrated by our staff daily, often in demanding circumstances, to support the communities we proudly serve.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Tim on this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to celebrate this recognition and thank him for his outstanding service to our communities.

Working together for healthier pets and stronger communities!

West Daly Regional Council was pleased to partner with AMRRIC - Animal Management in Rural & Remote Indigenous Communities to deliver essential veterinary services across the West Daly region, including communities impacted by this year's significant flooding events.

Over the last few weeks, the AMRRIC team were in the West Daly region to deliver a veterinary surgical program. The program visited Wadeye, Palumpa, and Peppimenarti, where the team surgically desexed 145 cats and dogs, administered approximately 470 anti-parasitic treatments, and supported local pet owners with animal health services.

But this wasn't just about the numbers. AMRRIC's work is built on the understanding that animal health, human health and the health of Country are all connected. When pets are healthier, communities are healthier. Safer. Stronger

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated AMRRIC veterinarians and volunteers for their commitment, expertise and compassion. And to everyone across the West Daly who welcomed them in, helped coordinate, and showed up for their animals, thank you.

Together, we are supporting the health and wellbeing of our animals and communities!

"50 Years of Deadly" – our West Daly community is celebrating with pride.

What a fantastic start to NAIDOC across the West Daly Region! From Wadeye to Peppimenarti and Nganmarriyanga, we've come together to mark a powerful milestone – five decades of NAIDOC as a national movement.

This year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly, is more than a celebration, it's a tribute to the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up. “50 Years of Deadly” speaks to the strength, resilience and achievements of our people

But the celebrations aren't over yet!

The next generation of footy stars are ready to shine at our upcoming NAIDOC AFL Carnival - there’s plenty more to come as we honour where we've come from and look ahead to the future ✨

As recovery efforts continue in Palumpa following the flooding, West Daly Regional Council staff from Wadeye have been visiting Palumpa and Peppimenarti to deliver sports and recreational activities for local children.

Through games, creative activities, and positive community engagement, the visits provide opportunities for children to connect, have fun, and enjoy a sense of normality during the recovery period!

West Daly Regional Council was pleased to welcome NT Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development, the Hon. Steven Edgington MLA, during his recent visit to Wadeye!

The visit provided an important opportunity for discussions around key priorities for the region, including housing, roads, and future development.

Council appreciates the continued engagement and looks forward to ongoing collaboration to support meaningful and positive outcomes for the West Daly Region.

During the recent Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM), West Daly Regional Council welcomed representatives from the Northern Territory and Commonwealth Governments for important presentations and discussions focused on governance and remote community outcomes.

The Northern Territory Government recognised and celebrated all Elected Members for successfully completing their mandatory training under Section 45 of the Local Government Act 2019, with certificates presented during the meeting. West Daly Regional Council is proud to be the first Regional Council to complete the training requirements ahead of schedule.

Council also welcomed Rob Knight and Craig Rowston from the Office of the Hon. Marion Scrymgour MP, Member for Lingiari, whose presentation provided valuable insight into the work of the Special Envoy and matters affecting remote communities.

West Daly Regional Council looks forward to continuing strong collaboration and engagement with government stakeholders to support positive outcomes across the region.
