Walgett Shire Council is seeking **Casual Urban Maintenance Workers across various locations within the Shire.

✅ Varied outdoor and practical work

You’ll help maintain our parks, public spaces, urban infrastructure and, depending on the role, water and wastewater services.

A Class C Driver Licence and White Card are essential, with additional plant, chainsaw, chemical safety and first aid tickets highly regarded.

✅ 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐁𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐭 – 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞! 🗑️

Walgett Shire Council has now delivered new 240L red-lid general waste bins to all eligible kerbside-collection properties across the Shire.

If you haven't yet received your new bin, please contact Council at [email protected] or (02) 6828 6100 as soon as possible so we can arrange delivery.

📅 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡, only the new red-lid bins will be collected as part of the general waste kerbside service. Please make sure your new bin is out for collection from this date onwards.

🔒 Please note: each bin has a unique serial number linked to your property address. Bins should only be left outside their appropriate property for collection.

𝐎𝐧 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 - 𝐃𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔/𝟐𝟔

Walgett Shire Council has received a Development Application, reference DA 2026/26 from Green Gold Energy Pty Ltd for the proposed construction of a 5Mw solar farm with an expected operational life of 30 years. This includes ancillary structures such as an inverter station, security fencing, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) units and new power line connections to adjacent Essential Energy infrastructure. The proposed development is located on Lot 1, DP 1268168 and Lot 783, DP 830040 – 647 Come By Chance Road, Walgett NSW 2832.

The Development Application and relevant supporting documentation can be inspected at Walgett Shire Council’s Administration Office, the Lightning Ridge Administration Office or the Collarenebri Community Service Centre at 77 Fox Street, Walgett, 35 Pandora Street, Lightning Ridge or 6 Wilson Street, Collarenebri respectively. The documents may be viewed Monday to Friday between 9:00am to 4:30pm from Monday 7th September 2026 to Monday 21st September 2026 inclusive. They are also available on Council’s website: www.walgett.nsw.gov.au.

All written submissions on the proposed development will be considered by Walgett Shire Council if received prior to 5:00pm on Monday 21st September 2026. If a written submission is made that objects to the development, then the grounds of objection should be specified within the submission. Council will not consider any confidential submissions.

Walgett Shire Council is pleased to have been successful in receiving funding through the FRRR/Suncorp Community Resilience Engagement Grant.

As part of the grant, Council has been able to purchase generators to support our local communities during emergencies and power outages.

These generators will provide an important backup during times of need, helping to keep key community facilities operational and providing greater support for our community when it matters most.

Whether it’s flooding, severe weather, prolonged power outages or other emergencies, being prepared means being better equipped to respond.

A big thank you to FRRR and Suncorp for supporting initiatives that help strengthen resilience across our communities.

Together, we’re helping make the Walgett Shire stronger, safer and better prepared.

Another big step forward at the Walgett Artesian Cooling Baths, with concreting now underway. 👷‍♂️

The site is really coming together and the baths are looking fantastic.

There is still more work to be done before the facility is ready to open, but each stage brings us another step closer.

A huge shoutout to our teams on the ground who have been working incredibly hard to keep the project moving and bring everything together. It’s exciting to see so much visible progress on site and watch the facility continue to take shape. 💦✨

After plenty of planning, preparation and hard work behind the scenes, it’s pretty exciting to finally see water going into the new baths.

There’s still more work to go before everything is ready, but we couldn’t resist sharing this with you. 👀✨
