Wentworth Shire Council has reported high attendance and community participation at the 70-Year Flood Rally events over the King's Birthday long weekend, highlighted by an Australian record achievement.

Key outcomes:
- Australian Record: 110 Ferguson tractors assembled in one location, honouring the community members who used tractors to build the protective levee banks during the 1956 flood.
- Attendance: Sundayโ€™s activities across the Main Street Muster and Wentworth Wharf Precinct drew an estimated 2,500 people. The Visitor Centre registered over 1,400 visitors on Sunday, and Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra (FOSO) recorded more than 600 ticket sales.
- Economic Impact: Preliminary REMPLAN modelling suggests the event generated a direct economic impact exceeding $600,000, supporting local hospitality, retail, and accommodation providers.

Council acknowledges the project teams, event organisers, local businesses, sponsors, and Council staff who coordinated the logistics for the weekend.

Planning a visit to the Australian Inland Botanic Gardens Mildura-Wentworth over the next few weeks? Please note that River Road is currently closed for roadworks between the Silver City Highway (Buronga) and Link Road.

The gardens are still open and accessible. Please access the gardens via the Silver City Highway and Buronga Hill Road.

The road closure commenced Tuesday 9 June and is expected to reopen in 5 weeks.

In the period 2014 to 2023, 27 people were killed and 465 were seriously injured as a result of crashes with an animal on a country road. Make sure you know what to do when driving in rural or regional areas - especially around dusk or dawn - to avoid collisions with animals. - FREE microchipping
- FREE dog c3 vaccinations

River Road will be closed to traffic and heavy vehicles for five weeks due to roadworks.

Commencing: Tuesday 9 June 2026
Location: River Road (Silver City Highway, Buronga to Link Road)

Detours will be in place:
- Heavy Vehicles: detour via Silver City Highway.
- Light Vehicles: may access River Road via Link Road and Silver City Highway.

Residents and businesses within the area will maintain access.

Access to the Australian Inland Botanic Gardens Mildura-Wentworth during the closure is via the Silver City Highway and Buronga Hill Road.

Wentworth Shire Council apologises for the inconvenience and thanks the community for their understanding and cooperation.
