This weekend, the NSW SES North Eastern Zone welcomed two new Mercedes-Benz Unimog U5023s, which will be strategically housed at NSW SES Coffs Harbour and NSW SES Murwillumbah Unit.

This brings the Far North Coast to three high-clearance Unimogs, with our existing U4023 based at NSW SES Lismore City Unit.

These vehicles are a significant addition to our operational capability, providing crews with the ability to access challenging terrain, deep floodwater and areas where conventional vehicles simply can’t go.

Strategically positioning these vehicles across the region means greater capability, better response and increased resilience when our communities need us most.

A fantastic investment in the Far North Coast and the communities we serve. 🧡

Flood Rescue volunteers play a critical role in helping communities stay safe during floods and severe weather events. From assisting people trapped by rising water to supporting emergency response operations, Flood Rescue teams provide a specialist capability that can make a real difference when communities need it most.
To continue responding to future emergencies, we're looking for more people to join our Flood Rescue teams.
You don't need previous emergency services experience. We provide cost free training and support to help you develop valuable skills in flood rescue, boating, teamwork and emergency response.

A national test of AusAlert is happening on Monday 27 July 2026 at around 2pm AEST.
During the test, all compatible mobile devices in Australia will receive an alert at about the same time.

The AusAlert national test will be a Critical Alert. This means you’ll receive it even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’. The alert may stay active for up to an hour.

AusAlert messages share important information, but they could make hidden safety devices easier to find.

If it’s not safe to receive the AusAlert national test on your devices:
⏰ Turn them off or put them in aeroplane mode at least one hour before the test.
📱 Keep them off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours after the test.

Following the national test, if it’s not safe to receive AusAlerts on your hidden devices at any time, keep them turned off or in aeroplane mode until you need to use them.

If you’re concerned about your immediate safety, call 000.
If you have concerns for your safety and would like further advice or support, call 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
For Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander services, call 13YARN (13 92 76).
