FREE COMMUNITY WORKSHOP Friday 29th May 2 p.m. Open day - all welcome with no tickets or registration needed.

We are excited to offer a very special opportunity for community members to take part in a 1 hour traditional weaving workshop at the Yorketown Library next Friday the 29th May at 2 p.m. We welcome Sonya Rankine, local Moonta Bay artist of Lakun Mara to share her knowledge and skill.

Sonya Rankine is the founder and artist of Lakun Mara. Sonya is a Ngarrindjeri, Ngadjuri, Narungga & Wirangu artist. Lakun Mara is weaving + culture and is at the heart of her art that is strongly linked to cultural maintenance, survival and revival. The art of Lakun Mara is inspired and strongly connected to the traditional weaving practice of Ngarrindjeri and Ngadjuri First Nations.

Please come and join Sonya for a relaxed workshop experience and take the opportunity to learn together. Tea and Coffee provided.

This opportunity is funded through the Libraries SA Innovation Grant.

Weeding is an essential part of a thriving library. A librarian’s job is not to become an archivist or a curator but to grow a library through intentional seeding and purposeful weeding. The work is never done and a library is never finished, making it so a library with a certified librarian can meet the patrons of today, tomorrow, and beyond.
