High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed visited the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Academy Dhaka and toured the Academy and its facilities.

During the visit, High Commissioner met with Medad Ali Virani, President, and the management of the AKDN Centre Bangladesh, and exchanged views on its programmes, initiatives and projects supporting Bangladesh’s economic and community development.

High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed called on Humaiun Kobir, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, today at the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the meeting, High Commissioner and the Adviser exchanged views on enhancing multilateral and bilateral engagements between the Maldives and Bangladesh, and explored opportunities to further strengthen the existing ties.

Discussions also covered matters of mutual interest, including expanding trade and economic cooperation, strengthening air connectivity, and further promoting tourism links between the Maldives and Bangladesh.

High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed delivered a lecture and had an interactive session at the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh, with participants of the 32nd Specialised Diplomatic Training Course (SDTC) and 4th Professional Master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy (PMIRD) Programme.

During the session, High Commissioner discussed small states diplomacy and the role of the Maldives on the global stage, sharing perspectives on the Maldives’ foreign policy, diplomatic engagement and experience as a small island state.

An engaging Q&A session followed, covering key topics including climate change, Maldives foreign policy, bilateral and multilateral relations, and regional cooperation, during which High Commissioner exchanged perspectives with the participants on the opportunities and challenges facing small states and the importance of effective diplomatic engagement in addressing shared regional and global issues.

High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed participated as a Panel Speaker at the national dissemination event “She Leads Tomorrow: Accelerate SDG Localisation in Bangladesh,” organised by UNOPS Bangladesh and UN Women Bangladesh under the project “Enhancing Women’s Political Leadership through SDG 5 and SDG 16 Localisation in Bangladesh”.

During the Talk with Female Diplomats session, High Commissioner shared experiences and insights on women’s leadership, highlighting the importance of empowering women and girls to take on leadership roles.

The event was graced by Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, as Chief Guest, and brought together representatives from the government, UN agencies, diplomatic missions and other stakeholders working to advance women’s leadership and SDG localisation in Bangladesh.

Last year, on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Maldives, the High Commission launched a special commomorative song that captured this beautiful bond through the universal language of music.
