We are the LIFE Programme, the EU's instrument for protecting the environment & the climate. It was born on 21 May 1992.

The European Union's LIFE programme is the only EU programme fully dedicated to environmental and climate objectives. We have funded more than 6,000 projects to date.

10 years of LIFE Climate Strategic Integrated Projects!

More than 100 representatives from 25 LIFE projects across Europe gathered in Bilbao, Spain, last month to exchange experiences in tackling climate change through:

♻️ Nature-based solutions
🏙️ Urban climate adaptation
⚡ Clean energy transition
🌍 Biodiversity restoration

Hosted by LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050, the Platform Meeting highlighted how cooperation, innovation and multilevel governance are helping turn climate ambition into across Europe.

Participants also visited inspiring pilot sites demonstrating flood prevention, coastal resilience and greener urban infrastructure in practice.

This grows crops inside a vertical stainless-steel tank, enabling local production with fewer resources.

Key results:
💧 Up to 98% less water used
🌱 Significantly higher yields compared to traditional farming
🚫 No use of pesticides or herbicides

Marine turtles have crossed our seas for millions of years - yet their habitats remain under increasing pressure.

Through LIFE MareNatura the EU supports the protection of marine biodiversity across the Mediterranean, helping conserve important habitats for vulnerable marine species including loggerhead and green turtles.

This day marks the 34th anniversary of the ! 🌍🎂

Since 1992, LIFE has invested into over 6 500 projects across Europe and beyond:
🟢 supporting biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration,
🟢 cleaner energy solutions,
🟢 circular economy initiatives, and
🟢 climate resilience.

Many of these projects directly support sites, helping protect Europe’s most valuable and threatened species and habitats.

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝🌼

Wild bees are among Europe’s most important pollinators, supporting biodiversity, healthy ecosystems and many of the plants and crops we rely on every day.

Yet many species are increasingly threatened by habitat fragmentation, intensive land use, climate change and the loss of flowering areas.

Through Wild Bees, the supports action to restore habitats, improve ecological corridors and strengthen conservation efforts for wild pollinators across Europe.

Because protecting bee-odiversity means protecting the ecosystems that sustain us all.
