Nature can help communities prepare for a changing climate.🌿

At the Adaptation & Nature Forum in Rennes, France, showcased practical solutions that are already strengthening climate resilience across Europe.

🌊 LIFE4ZOO is using constructed wetlands and circular water management to improve water resilience and reduce pressure on freshwater resources.

🌱 LIFE BiospherAdapt is helping territories adapt to climate change through ecosystem-based solutions developed with UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.

🌍 LIFE-IP NL-NASCCELERATE is supporting the faster implementation of climate adaptation policies at national and regional levels.

These projects show how restoring ecosystems can deliver benefits for nature, communities and climate resilience.

How old is Europe’s building stock? And what does it cost to renovate it? 🏠

The answer is now easier to find.

The ReLIFE has published a new open-access dataset covering 130 000+ data points across all 27 EU countries.

One striking finding: nearly half of Europe’s buildings were built before 1979. And older buildings can require almost 4 times more energy for heating and hot water than buildings constructed after 2021.

But renovation costs are not the same everywhere. ReLIFE’s data helps map these differences – giving homeowners, businesses and policymakers a clearer picture of the challenge ahead. 🔎

What happens when you combine conservation, technology and a very good sniffer dog?

On Rathlin Island in the Northern Ireland, the LIFE RAFT has spent 5 years protecting one of Europe’s most important seabird colonies.

With 400 traps, 110 cameras, thermal drones and Woody the sniffer dog 🐕, the team tracked down invasive ferrets that were threatening the island’s 250 000 seabirds.

And the results are already showing: Manx shearwaters are breeding on Rathlin for the first time in decades. 💚

Now, the team is turning its attention to invasive rats.

Making power lines safer for birds 🦅⚡

Power lines are essential infrastructure, but collisions with cables and electrocution can pose a serious threat to birds.

The PowerLines4Birds is taking action to reduce these risks by identifying high-risk areas, monitoring bird populations and incidents, and implementing practical mitigation measures.

The project also shows that power lines, when properly adapted, can be integrated more safely into the landscape and provide perching and shelter opportunities for birds. 🌿

By bringing together conservation organisations, researchers and energy infrastructure managers, LIFE PowerLines4Birds is helping develop more effective and sustainable solutions for bird protection.

A climate-friendly holiday tip from EkoMałopolska!

Don’t mow the lawn. 🌱

Leaving some areas of grass longer helps retain moisture, protects the soil from drying out and gives pollinators a place to find food and shelter. 🐝🦋

Sometimes, less is more, also for the climate! 🌍

Small changes to the way we care for our gardens can make a real difference.

Restoration in action at the European Conference on Ecological Restoration, SERE2026! 🌱

What does successful ecological restoration look like on the ground?

From LIFE RestituO and GrassLIFE2 to Improve Aquatic LIFE, DuneLIFE and LIFE GOPROFOR-MED, are showing how innovation, knowledge and collaboration can deliver lasting results for nature. 💚

The message from SERE2026 is clear: restoration works best when we learn from each other and bring successful approaches to a wider scale.

And that’s exactly what the LIFE community is here to do. If you are attending, don't forget to pass by our stand!

Restoring land means restoring hope! 🌍

The Urban Klima 2050 shows what looks like in practice.

Over seven years, this project has helped the Basque Country, Spain turn climate plans into concrete action:

🌿 Nature-based solutions to reduce flood risks
🌊 More resilient coasts and river basins
🏙️ Greener, cooler cities that improve quality of life

LIFE Urban Klima 2050 is demonstrating how climate adaptation and mitigation can strengthen communities, protect ecosystems and deliver economic benefits.
