Gelephu Higher Secondary School is a co-educational day school with classes from nine to twelve. The school, established in 2003, is located at Gelephu, a third major town in Bhutan, in the southern district of Sarpang. It is barely one kilometre from the main town with its picturesque ten or so acres campus adorned with pathways of golden hedges and gardens of multicoloured ever flowering bougai

nvillea. A visitor entering this school is taken to a new world of beauty and a temple of learning greeted by a vision-mission board with “ nurturing the whole child". The school presently has a student’s strength of seven hundred and eighty catered to by forty-two teachers and supported by sixteen other staff. The school has been working hard ever since the school began under the leadership of Ms Sangay Zam (presently Member of Parliament) which includes setting up the system, developing the landscape and emerging as the germinating seed to get the attention of the world around. A whole Bhutan second in class twelve board exam came as a reward in 2008, whole Bhutan Commerce stream topper in 2009 and a whole Bhutan class ten topper in 2010 securing an all-time high average of 94.6%. Also, the school ranked 2nd and 3rd in class twelve and class ten respectively amongst all the schools in performance evaluated based on indicators encompassing a wide range of areas. In 2012 the school produced a whole Bhutan second in science stream. 2014 has seen the Arts stream being introduced.

The Gelephu Higher Secondary School family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to Mr. Pema Tshering as he embarks on his new journey at Gelephu Lower Secondary School.

Since joining GHSS in 2016, Mr. Pema Tshering has dedicatedly served as a History teacher for Classes IX to XII, inspiring countless students through his commitment, wisdom, and passion for teaching. Beyond the classroom, he played a vital role in nurturing democratic values among students by successfully leading the Democracy Club since his arrival at the school.

His sincerity, leadership, and contributions in carrying out various responsibilities will always be remembered and cherished by the school community. We thank him for his valuable service and wish him continued success, happiness, and good health in his future endeavors.

On 9th May, the Annual Marathon was successfully conducted in alignment with World Malaria Day to promote health awareness, physical fitness, and community participation. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and members of the community. The program was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Dasho Thrompon, along with his associates and officials, whose presence added significance to the occasion. The marathon aimed to spread awareness about malaria prevention while encouraging healthy lifestyles and teamwork among participants. The event concluded successfully with appreciation extended to all organizers, volunteers, and participants for their active involvement.

World Malaria Day was celebrated joyously by GHSS family on the theme; Driven to End Malaria- Now We can, Now We Must!
The celebration witnessed poster competition among 24 classes. Top three classes were awarded prizes they deserved.

Gelephu Higher Secondary School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Sangay Sonam as the Officiating Vice Principal of the school.

Great Responsibility, Greater Power!

Today, Gelephu Higher Secondary School held the Captain Badge Award Ceremony to honor the newly selected student leaders. The school principal and teachers presented badges to the school captains, class captains, prefects, and others, marking their official appointment.
The event celebrated leadership, teamwork, and the spirit of service, motivating all students to contribute positively to the school community.

The program was initiated and organized by the School Democracy Club.
