A total of 83 Chiwog Tshogpas from Monggar participated in a one-day training on community policing and crime prevention held in the district today.

The training aimed to enhance community involvement in preventing crime, with a particular focus on protecting chortens and lhakhangs from acts of vandalism.

The session emphasized the vital role of local leaders in promoting public awareness, encouraging the timely reporting of suspicious activities, and helping preserve the country’s cultural and religious heritage.

The program was jointly organized by Monggar Police, the District Administration, and RENEW.

CLARIFICATION FROM MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS

A message has been circulating on various social media platforms warning the public about individuals allegedly impersonating Home Affairs Officers.

At the outset, the Ministry of Home Affairs would like to acknowledge and appreciate the individual who shared the message with the intention of safeguarding the public. However, the Ministry wishes to clarify that no door-to-door exercise involving the verification of identity cards, collection of fingerprints, photographs, or census-related biometric data has been initiated or authorised by the Department of Civil Registration and Census.

While the circulating message is not based on any verified initiative of the Ministry, it serves as a timely reminder for the public to remain vigilant against individuals who may falsely claim to represent government agencies.

Members of the public are advised to:

1. Refrain from providing personal information or biometric data to unknown individuals claiming to be government officials.

2. Report any suspicious activity immediately to the Royal Bhutan Police or the relevant government agency for verification.

We request everyone to help disseminate this clarification through your respective networks to prevent unnecessary public concern while encouraging continued vigilance against fraud and impersonation.

Chief of Police, Royal Bhutan Police, attends the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit in New York

Brigadier Phub Gyaltshen, Chief of Police of the Royal Bhutan Police, attended the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 7 to 8 July 2026.

The Summit brought together Heads of Police from UN Member States contributing to United Nations peacekeeping operations. It provided a platform for discussions on the future of United Nations policing, innovation and new technologies in policing, and the strengthening of international cooperation to address transnational challenges.

Ahead of the Summit, Brigadier Phub Gyaltshen held separate bilateral meetings at the United Nations Headquarters with HE. Mr Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support (DOS); H.E.
Mr Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations (DPO); and Mr Faisal Shahkar, United Nations Police Adviser.

During the meetings, Brigadier Phub Gyaltshen reiterated Bhutan's abiding commitment to contribute towards the maintenance of international peace and security as envisioned by His Majesty The King.

The Under-Secretaries-General and the Police Adviser conveyed their appreciation to Bhutan's contributions to international peacekeeping and commended the exemplary conduct of Bhutanese officers and personnel in various missions.

Royal Bhutan Police Canine Personnel Begin Specialized Training in India

Eleven personnel from the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) Canine Unit commenced a six-month Canine Handling and Management Training at the National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD), Gwalior, India, today. The training is being conducted under the Government of India’s Project Tied Assistance framework.

The programme aims to strengthen the professional competencies of RBP canine handlers and enhance the operational capabilities of the Canine Unit. Police dogs play an indispensable role in modern policing by supporting narcotics and explosives detection, criminal investigations, search and rescue operations, tracking suspects, and public security. Their exceptional abilities, combined with skilled handlers, significantly improve policing effectiveness and public safety.

The Royal Bhutan Police sincerely thanks the Government of India for its continued support in strengthening the capacity of the RBP and extends its appreciation to the National Training Centre for Dogs, Gwalior, for providing this valuable training opportunity.
