Two people have been charged following a residential robbery in Altona last week.

A 26-year-old man was staying at a relative's while the homeowner was away when police say a woman and a man showed up and threatened to stab and shoot him. They took a flat screen tv and, the victim who feared for his safety, helped in carrying it away.

Then, the woman and the victim went back to the home and that's when officers showed up for a non-related complaint.
They noticed the woman had a large knife on her and say the victim didn't speak to them.

It was only a few days later, when the victim reached out after talking to the homeowner about the incident.
As a result, a 20-year-old Altona man was charged with uttering threats and robbery and was released on an undertaking.

A 41-year-old woman of no fixed address in Winnipeg was charged with uttering threats, robbery, failing to comply with release conditions, and was remanded into custody.

"Although this incident involved persons attending to another residence to commit a crime, and threaten violence to achieve this goal, police would like to stress that this incident involved parties that were well known to each other and this was a targeted crime," noted Altona Police Chief Dan Defer in a news release. "At no time was there a threat to the public."
Police recovered the stolen tv at another address in Altona.

Two people were arrested after a police pursuit Sunday near Altona.

According to the Altona Police Service, officers attempted to stop a vehicle near the community, however the driver refused to stop and sped away.

Police say they headed east on Highway 201 at a high rate of speed, crossing traveling through St. Joseph and another 2 miles when the driver tried to turn south on a rural mile road but failed to make the turn and instead, went into the ditch. That's when the two people in the vehicle got out and surrendered to police which, at this point, included Manitoba First Nations Police officers.

A 27-year-old man from Morris has been charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and several highway traffic act offenses.

He is well known to police and also had three outstanding warrants for his arrest from several agencies.

He was held in custody for a court appearance.

A 50-year-old woman from Altona was later released without charges.

The Altona Police Service was made aware of an incident at École Parkside Jr. High School this morning and attended the school to investigate.
The incident involved a bomb threat made in relation to the school. In consultation with school staff and administrators from Borderland School Division, and out of an abundance of caution, a decision was made to evacuate the school to prevent any potential harm to students and staff.

Members of the Winkler Police Service and the RCMP Police Dog Service Unit, including an explosives-trained police dog, attended the school and conducted a search of the building.

The search has been completed, and the school has been cleared. Police are satisfied that there is no further threat to students, staff, or the public.

During their investigation, Police have identified a 13-year-old student who was arrested and subsequently released on an Undertaking to appear in court, regarding a charge of Mischief.

The Altona Police Service would like to thank the staff and administration of Borderland School Division, the Winkler Police Service, the RCMP Police Dog Service Unit, as well as Rhineland Emergency Services for their assistance in bringing this matter to a safe conclusion.

As the investigation remains ongoing, no further information will be released at this time. If anyone has further information to assist the investigation, they are requested to contact Police at 204-324-5353 and can remain anonymous by contacting the Manitoba Crime Stoppers as https://manitobacrimestoppers.com/ or 1-800-222-8477.
