You have more control over your home's wildfire risk than you might think.

The Home Ignition Zone is the 30-metre area around your home, and it's where you have the most control. Focus closest to your house first:

→ 0 to 1.5m: Non-combustible zone. Gravel or stone, no mulch, no debris.
→ 1.5 to 10m: Remove dry underbrush, move sheds and firewood, space out combustibles.
→ 10 to 30m: Thin and prune trees, remove dead material, reduce fuel.

You don't have to do it all at once. Just start close and work outward.

There are many ways to get prepared for power outages. If you have a generator, make sure you know how to use it safely.
- Run portable fuel-burning generators at least 6 m (20 feet) from all homes and buildings
- Test carbon monoxide alarms regularly
- Never plug a generator into a wall outlet
