lso includes assisting in off-road emergencies when traditional emergency services require specialized assistance. North Shore Search and Rescue (NSSAR) is responsible for a catchment area from Blind River to West Nipissing, and Cartier to Parry Sound, including Killarney and Manitoulin Island; an area encompassing nearly 300,000 people and some approximately 12,000 square kilometers. Upon activation by an official source, available members respond to the location requested. The team is based out of Espanola as it is the most central location, where we have our "SAR Centre" and compound to store our wide range of equipment. North Shore Search And Rescue is a member of both the Ontario Search And Rescue Volunteer Association https://osarva.ca/ and the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada https://sarvac.ca/. We assist with numerous calls for Search and Rescue operations during all four seasons, as well as providing "PSAR" (Preventative Search And Rescue) which consists of various programs from AdventureSmart https://www.adventuresmart.ca/index.php which includes the Hug A Tree And Survive program, Survive Outside, and others that educate and encourage people to “Get informed and go outdoors”! All these services are provided to the public at no cost! We believe that prevention is the key to preservation, and to teach these skills to the people we serve, in turn helps to simplify our task in a Search and Rescue emergency. North Shore Search and Rescue is a charity (892324799 RR 0001) and is dependent upon assistance from businesses, organizations and citizens to support our fundraising efforts.
