A fire advisory is now in effect for the Peace River Forest Area and MD of Smoky River

The continued warm temperatures create conditions where wildfires can start easily and spread quickly. Be cautious when spending time outdoors and avoid activities that could potentially spark a wildfire.

Under this advisory:
• Existing fire permits are valid. Permit holders must follow all safe burning conditions outlined on the permit.
• New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.
• Safe campfires are allowed.

Prohibited:
• Any burning without a valid fire permit is prohibited, except for campfires.

When operating machinery like off-highway vehicles or farm equipment, always carry firefighting tools such as a shovel, fire extinguisher and a pail.

Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure it is fully extinguished by soaking it, stirring it, and soaking it again.

Stay informed of fire restrictions and fire bans in your area by checking www.albertafirebans.ca.

If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

Todat at 1:55 p.m., Alberta Emergency Alert will issue a test message across Alberta through TV, radio, and directly to compatible and connected smartphones. The test is more than a check of the National Alerting system, it is an opportunity for all of us to test our own readiness to respond.

When you receive the alert, take a moment to reflect on how prepared you would have been if that alert were real. Start a conversation with your household, neighbours, friends, and family about where they were when the alert went off and how ready they would have been.

Having a conversation about preparedness is one step to becoming more prepared and helping others be prepared too. Learn how you can use emergency alerts to strengthen your preparedness.

As the seasons change, so does the weather — and sometimes, it changes fast. From powerful storms and flooding to wildfires and winter freezes, communities across the country have seen how quickly conditions can shift. Events like Wildfires and the last few Winter Storm remind us that emergencies don’t always come with much warning.

That’s why having an emergency preparedness plan isn’t just a “nice to have” — it’s essential. 🌦️

A simple, well-thought-out plan helps your family:
✔️ Know where to go
✔️ Know how to communicate
✔️ Know what to do
✔️ Stay calm under pressure

And one of the smartest steps you can take? Build a 72-hour emergency kit.

Why 72 hours? Because after many disasters, it can take at least three days for utilities to be restored or for help to reach everyone. A 72-hour kit should include:
🧴 Water (1 gallon per person per day)
🥫 Non-perishable food
🔦 Flashlights + extra batteries
🔋 Portable phone charger
🩹 First aid supplies
📻 Battery-powered radio
🧥 Weather-appropriate clothing
📄 Copies of important documents and medications

Preparedness isn’t about fear — it’s about confidence. It’s about knowing that when the weather shifts, you’re ready.

This season, take 30 minutes to make a plan and start your kit. Your future self (and your family) will thank you. 💙
