🔔 Alarmed for Life — Keeping Hanover Safe.

In 2025, we continued our annual door to door program helping residents check smoke and CO alarms, supporting compliance ahead of new provincial CO legislation in 2026.

Programs like this play a key role in preventing emergencies before they happen.

On Sunday, May 3rd, members of Hanover Fire successfully completed certification for NFPA 1006 Swiftwater Rescuer Operations and Technician.

This certification represents a major commitment from our members, including extensive hands-on training, skill development, and the successful completion of written examinations at both the Operations and Technician levels.

Hanover Fire is also proud to be the first fire department assessed by the OFM AS&E in Swiftwater Rescue, marking an important milestone for our department and for technical rescue training in Ontario.

Swiftwater rescue is a highly specialized discipline focused on rescuing people from fast-moving water, flood conditions, river systems, and other water-related emergencies. These incidents are dynamic, dangerous, and require trained rescuers who understand water behaviour, rescue techniques, personal protective equipment, rope systems, and team-based operations.

Hanover Fire is proud to deliver specialty technical rescue services not only to the Town of Hanover, but also to the Municipalities of Brockton, West Grey, Grey Highlands, Southgate, and Arran-Elderslie under agreement.

A huge thank you to our members for the time, dedication, and professionalism they have put into this certification. Your commitment strengthens emergency response across Grey & Bruce.

This past Saturday, HFD was proud to take part in a Touch-a-Truck event hosted by Hanover Firehouse Subs .

It was a great opportunity for our members to connect with families, show the truck, and spend time with the community we are proud to serve.

We also want to recognize the ongoing support of Firehouse Subs and the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada. In 2022, Hanover Fire Department received a $20,450.74 grant that helped purchase our DJI Matrice 30T drone, including thermal imaging, additional batteries, and a searchlight/broadcasting system. This equipment continues to support firefighter safety, fireground operations, and rescue incidents in Hanover and the surrounding area.

Thank you to Hanover Firehouse Subs for hosting this event, and thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

Happy First Responder Day!
In 2025, Hanover Fire responded to 244 emergency calls, and behind every call was a dedicated team ready to serve our community when it mattered most.

Thank you to the members of HFD for your commitment, training, teamwork, and willingness to step up whenever the pager goes off.

We also want to recognize all first responders and allied agencies we work alongside, including police, paramedics, dispatchers, public works, hydro crews, tow operators, emergency management partners, and everyone who plays a role in keeping our community safe.

We appreciate all that you do.

🍪😊 Smiles All Around in Hanover! 😊🍪

The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign is back April 27 – May 3, 2026, and our community came together to kick it off in the sweetest way possible!

Pictured here are members of the Hanover Fire & Rescue, Hanover Police Service, Mayor Sue Paterson, Hayley Hundt from the VON’s Ontario Student Nutrition Program and Tim Hortons store owner Corrina Allen, all lending a hand to decorate Smile Cookies in support of a great cause.

This year, the VON’s Ontario Student Nutrition Program, Southwest Region has been selected as the recipient in Grey Bruce communities. Best of all, 100% of funds raised locally stay local, supporting school nutrition programs right here at home.

Thank you to everyone involved for helping make a difference, one smile cookie at a time! 💙

Our volunteer firefighters aren’t just neighbours helping out—they are highly trained professionals who meet the exact same NFPA standards as full-time crews. They don’t just show up when it’s convenient; they:

• leave family dinners at a moment's notice

• jump out of bed for 3:00 AM calls

• step away from their "day jobs" the second the pager sounds

These individuals are the backbone of our fire services, protecting over 80% of Ontario’s geography. 🌲🚜

This , we’re looking past the gear at the people behind it. To the firefighters balancing careers, families, and the sudden ring of a pager: We see the dedication it takes to serve your community at 3:00 AM and still be at your desk by 9:00 AM.

Thank you for the commitment it takes to balance both roles. 👨‍🚒

🔥 Another Busy & Productive Week at Hanover Fire Department 🔥

This week, our firefighters continued sharpening the skills that keep our community safe. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, firefighters and officers completed our annual comprehensive driving assessment, tackling challenging exercises with both a large pump apparatus and a pickup truck. These assessments ensure our members are prepared to safely operate emergency vehicles in unpredictable, real‑world conditions.

Our new recruits were also hard at work, participating in hands‑on wildland fire training as they build the confidence and knowledge needed for the upcoming season.

Looking ahead to the weekend, three firefighters will be attending regional training centres to further enhance their skills, while one of our Chief Officers will be serving as an instructor, supporting training and development across the region.

And in between all the training, our crews remained ready and responded to emergency calls for service as needed.

We are incredibly proud of our paid‑on‑call firefighters. Their dedication, professionalism and commitment to continuous learning are what make our community safer every single day. 🚒💪
