Wondering what those white “Y” markings are around Lamont County?

Ground survey targets are being placed today and tomorrow at approximately 16 locations throughout the County as part of an upcoming mapping and orthophoto project.

The markings are called Ground Control Points (GCPs).
They provide precise reference coordinates that help accurately position aerial imagery and create a more accurate representation of the surveyed area.

GCPs are commonly used in photogrammetry and help ensure the mapping data collected during the project is accurately georeferenced.

So, if you spot a white “Y” while you're out and about -
mystery solved!

🌼 W**D WEDNESDAY: Scentless Chamomile

It may look like a harmless daisy, but Scentless Chamomile is a regulated noxious w**d in Alberta and a w**d of concern in Lamont County.

Recognizable by its white, daisy-like flowers with yellow centres, Scentless Chamomile can spread quickly and compete with crops and desirable vegetation. A single plant can produce many seeds, allowing infestations to expand if they aren’t identified and managed early.

Keep an eye on fields, pastures, roadsides and disturbed areas for new plants. Early identification and proper control can help prevent Scentless Chamomile from becoming established and spreading to neighbouring properties.

Today, we join communities across Canada in remembering the victims of Stalinism, Na**sm and other totalitarian regimes.

Black Ribbon Day is an opportunity to honour those whose lives were lost or forever changed, and to reflect on the importance of remembrance.

We honour their memory.
