The Loon Lake Library is making a big purchase! In order to help make our building more accessible for the community, we are making the purchase of a stair climbing chair. This will make it easier for those who have difficulty with all our stairs to be able to come enjoy the library. It is a costly endeavor, but we think it is necessary and important to our community. If anyone would like to donate to this project we would be so grateful for the help! Any donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt through the Village of Loon Lake. Donations can be made at the Village/RM office during their open hours or by etransfer to [email protected]. please include that it is a library donation. Thank you for considering helping us with this and we can't wait to show the community our new stair climbing chair!

The Correspondent

I highly recommend listening to this book as an audiobook! The story is told entirely through letters and emails, and hearing the correspondence come to life makes the experience especially enjoyable.

At the centre of the story is Sybil Van Antwerp, a 73-year-old retired lawyer who is witty, opinionated, intelligent, stubborn and wonderfully complicated. 😂 Through her letters to her children, her brother Felix, friends, neighbours and even authors she admires, we slowly discover the many layers of this fascinating woman.

As the story unfolds, a health condition, family struggles, a mysterious connection to Sybil’s past, questions about her family history and even the possibility of romance begin to shake up her carefully ordered life.

What I loved most was watching Sybil unfold through her correspondence. She grows and changes as the story progresses, and we discover her humour, regrets, grief, wisdom and vulnerabilities along the way.

The Correspondent is ultimately a story about family, grief, forgiveness, aging, second chances and the connections we make through the written word.

🎧 My biggest recommendation: listen to this one! Sybil is a character you won’t soon forget.

Happy Place
